Chances of transferring into Rutgers for Fall 2013 + additional questions

Hey everyone,

I currently attend a 4 year CUNY, and I have a 3.1 GPA with 52 credits earned. I have a few questions and concerns though:

I've only been a full time student (taking 12+ credits) twice out of 5 semesters. In those two semesters, my GPA was about a 2.7 (Although this was when I thought I'd major in Bio, but it turns out I suck at science). I took 10 or 11 credits in two other semesters though, but I only took 8 last semester. Would they think that I cannot handle a full course load because of this?

I know that there is an agreement in NJ that states that if a student earns an Associate's degree from an NJ CC, they will be guaranteed acceptance into a state school. Does this also apply for those coming from out of state schools? Also, if I earn my AA this semester, would it boost my chances of getting into Rutgers?

Does residency matter? Is it advantageous if you are in state or out of state?

Is your HS transcript important? I've read that if you have 24+ credits, it doesn't really matter, however, Rutgers still requires you to send it. Also, would I have to contact my HS for my transcript, or would my current college be able to provide that information?

Thanks in advance

Taking less than a full load for an extended time could be a concern. If there are mitigating circumstances, then you should state them (ie. medical problem, working, etc.).

Look on the Rutgers website or ask your college if they have an agreement with Rutgers, it should be plainly stated. Usually transfer agreements are for residents of the state, but not always.

For public universities, yes, state of residence is a factor. About the only time it is advantageous to be an OOS applicant is if you are willing to pay full OOS tuition as many states are happy to add these increased fees to their revenue.

Usually if you are applying for a jr transfer, you HS record will be less or not important. Unless otherwise stated, you must have an official transcript sent by your HS.

Thanks for replying, entomom.

There’s a few reasons why I didn’t take a full course load a few times (My job, being in a major that just wasn’t for me, and not knowing what I wanted to do so I didn’t want to waste time and money on useless courses). I stated these reasons in my essay.

All things considered, does my GPA and credits earned put me in a good position to be accepted? I’m really going for SAS in New Brunswick by the way, but I also applied for the Newark campus

Just gonna bump this…

I was optimistic at first, but now I’m feeling a bit worried because I’m OOS
