This is a Cornell sophomore who is really really looking forward to transfering into the SEAS school at Columbia with 3rd yr standing. Although Cornell Eng. school is technically a much better engineering college than SEAS, SEAS happens to offer a special program that I'm very interested in. Although I've been told and have found out myself (I was waitlisted for Columbia college before) that transfer admission to Columbia is extremely competitive, I still really hope someone here could help me evaluating my chances of getting in this time. Thanks.
So here are my stats sofar, GPA: 3.7ish ECs: mostly a mix of REUs, club officer, and volunteer stuffs SAT: lo 1400ish
But the thing is that the eng. major I'm in right now happens to be one of the unpopular/weakest eng. majors in SEAS. Not sure if that would increase my chances. Anyhow, if anybody has some experiences with transfer admission to SEAS, please shed some light on my admission possibility. Thanks so much!

I'm a 2nd yr CHEME at Cornell right now, wish to continue my path as a CHEME but w/ a concentration in genom. eng. which is uniquely offered by Columbia's CHEME department.

Well since you're a girl studying engineering from another highly acclaimed school with such a high GPA, I would think that you stand an above average chance.
I'm sure Cornell will be sorry to lose you.

But my ECs are relatively weak compare to those from the successful top school transfers who kindly posted for ref. on this forum,
sofar, I've only done:
1) 2 semesters of REU
2) exe. board member for a cultural org.
3) translator/interpreter for a language program
4) member of math club
5) cont'd biomed research in NYU (started as junior in HS)
6) volunteer <50 hrs in a hospital
7) NHS webmaster (HS)
Since the space was limited on the online app, I was only able to put these up. Plus my SATs are not even considered good compare the typical scoring ranges for asians (yeah I'm a asian chick).
I'm not feeling very confident about this; u still think i got a good shot?

i think admission to columbia college itself is a lot more difficult than admission to SEAS. Also, like the above poster's message, you are a female in engineering with a high GPA from cornell and good HS stats (obviously good enough to get you WL'ed at CC). While EC's matter, I don't think they matter more than your academic stats and reasons for transfer, both of which you are pretty set with.

Thanks for boosting my confidence, guys.
Foxdie, I saw your posts from last year on applying to SEAS. You seemed to have some great stats too, any luck?
