Chances of transferring into Stanford as a sophomore?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if you could give some insight on my chances of getting into Stanford as a transfer applicant? I applied for fall 2016 as a freshman but I was rejected. I'll be attending UCLA in the fall.

Brief summary of stats:

-International student from Canada
-2300 SAT, 800 Math II, 750 Bio M
-90% average, upward trend - 94% midterm of senior year
-ECs: Wind Ensemble (4 years), Jazz Choir (2 years), Jazz Band (2 years), Weightlifting/Powerlifting (2 years), Director of a non-profit (3 years), some minor awards here and there

What would you suggest I do in my first year at UCLA?

If the essay topics remain the same, could I simply reword a few things and re-use my essays?

Thanks.

It is possible but highly unlikely. Elite universities take only a handful of transfers. It is like winning the lottery–someone does, but the odds are against it.

It is worth a try, though. Best wishes.

Stanford takes only a handful of transfers each year and those are mostly people who are academic stars transferring from non-top schools and community colleges. You will have to prove to Stanford that it offers you something that you aren’t able to get at UCLA.

Best of luck! :)

If you do something really really awesome while at UCLA (like, become a big-deal kind of student), then you might be able to transfer to Stanford. Since you’re international, will you be asking for aid? That might factor into Stanford’s decision, although I think it’s very possible that Stanford will be need-blind for internationals by the time you apply.
