Any one wanna chance me? Thanks! I applied for Fall 2011, and am awaiting the transfer decisions like everyone else. most likely to come out around april 20th i heard.

I'm transferring from a California community college.
GPA: 3.81
IGETC: Will be finished by end of Spring 2011. I only need one more class to complete IGETC and im doing it right now in this current semester.
Applying as a PHILOSOPHY major. A NON-impacted major.
I wil be finished with all UCLA pre-reqs for the philosophy major by spring 2011. I'm finishing up the last pre-req right now in this current spring semester.
Average GPA of students who transferred to UCLA as philosophy majors last year was 3.54.
I am of Hispanic ethnicity.
Plenty of EC's : Volunteer Basketball Coach, Volunteered for American Cancer Society, etc. (lol, dont wanna list them all)
Employment: Basketball referee for a local park league.
Won some academic awards at my current community college: Dean's Honor, President's Honor, etc.
Had a 4.0 GPA in my most recent semester (Fall 2010, which I updated the grades for the application in january)
And yeah, thats about it. I dont know if theres anything else I need to add (if there is let me know)..
Let me know what you think my chances of getting in are! Good Luck to anybody else looking hoping to transfer to UCLA this fall!

the average admitted student was a 3.54, the average enrolled student was like 3.45 gpa; i had 3.46, so yeah, you’re pretty much in. If you do end up going to UCLA, be wary of david kaplan’s philosophy of language classes. They’re extremely interesting, but 127B (on Bertrand Russel) was stupid difficult, so be careful if you decide to take it in the fall.

Thanks for chancing me everybody! It feels a little better knowing, that other people feel im pretty much in. Yeah, the only thing is I didnt do the TAP or honors program at my community college. But I guess, if you have a GPA much higher than the average in a non-impacted major it really doesnt matter much. I certainly hope so! I still dont want to say anything though, I dont want to jinx it. thanks again everybody! good luck to anybody else still waiting on fall 2011 transfer decisions from UCLA!

I applied to Berkeley for Fall 2011.
3.93 UC Transferrable GPA
Concurrently enrolled at CC since junior year of high school.
Pretty much I was finished with 1.5 semesters (20 units) before graduating high school. So I’m doing like 2.5 semesters of units in 1 year. It’s not too bad if you stay on top of your work. I took 8 units (3 transferrable) in the Summer, 17 semester units in the Fall and now taking 20 units in the Spring. I didn’t have any AP credits other than AP Calculus AB. I took Calculus I at CC during high school so the AP Credit didn’t really help me at all. Hope this info helps.

no but you’d be foolish not to take it at all. It’s very dense and difficult, but very modern, philosophy of language. I’d recommend at least taking his class on Kripke (127C) and maybe Quine (172 i think)

he joked in class that experts philosophers of language said that the russel paper we were reading wasn’t even comprehensible. Russel is a terrible writer, but without a doubt the concepts he discusses are absolutely fascinating, as is the issue of denotation within language. If you want to take a look at the paper in advance google russel’s ‘on denoting’ and look up chapter v from ‘principles of mathetmics.’ i’d be willing to email them to you if you’d like, but don’t expect to understand them.

Is not doing TAP going to hurt my chances? Even though my GPA is much higher than the average for admitted philosophy majors? and since philosophy is a NON-impacted major? or is TAP mainly to help those with highly impacted majors have a better shot at being admitted? let me know! thanks!
