I'm going to be a sophomore at USC looking to transfer to any Ivy League school (preferably Columbia) and am wondering what my chances are or if you have any advice to improve my chances. Here are my stats:

HS GPA: 3.96
USC GPA: 3.96

SAT Writing: 740
SAT Math: 670
SAT Reading: 790

SAT II Math I: 620
SAT II Literature: 710
SAT II US History: 720

National Hispanic Scholar PSAT/NMSQT

Freshman courses included a 300 level history course and a 400 level senior seminar in history as well as a 300 level orchestral conducting class. (I'm a music major at USC, hence the conducting class.)

I would say you have a good shot if you have solid reasons for transferring. You have a mildly low SAT math score. Albeit, I don't think it will have that big of an impact, considering you are a music major. Actually, if you have really good reasons, I see you getting in, for you are hispanic.

Also, if you are applying to columbia, you might want to consider the columbia juilliard exchange, where you can take private classes at juilliard while attending columbia.

Apply to a number of schools, especially if need-based financial aid might be a problem. Schools vary alot on how they deal with financial aid for transfer students. It is often less than would be offered a freshman.

My D is hispanic & attempted to tranfer after sophmore year, not as good an avg (3.5)...got in all she applied to, but none gave us enough FA for her to attend.

Current School: McDaniel College
Entering as: sophomore
High School GPA: 3.67
College GPA: 3.47
SAT/ACT Scores: 1500/2400 (I have a learning disability & didn’t submit unless required)
SAT II Scores:
Significant ECs: Good Internships: TV Broadcasting (this summer at CBS 3 newsroom), Radio Broadcasting (KYW NewsStudies) Non-Profit (Komen Breast Cancer Found.) , Congressional campaign;
Multiple other Community Service, Sports

Applied to: American University, Catholic University
Accepted: American University, Catholic University
Waitlisted:
Rejected: none

Likely Attending: likely staying another year at McDaniel because the transfer financial aid packages offered have made transfer impossible (American offered 44% of need, CUA 68% of need), I'm trying to go to DC for poli sci and broadcasting.

Maybe others know of some good places for this dual major ;-)

VERY DISAPPOINTED in TRANSFER financial aid…. reading CC and student review.com seems transferring can be a tough reach for students dependent upon need-based aid.

his* ...racnna is not an indian girl like most people on here think lol. its the first three letters of my first and first three letters of my last name spelled backwards...
