Hi i have a 3.1 gpa..3 years of honors chinese with AP Environmental and Biology my sat scores are M: 620 R:600 W: 580 ...I am in key club, played guitar since 5th grade. taken 4 years of advanced guitar ensemble at school, hawaii youth symphony for 2 years (trombone), have played in payed gigs at restaurants (idk if that even matters) was a booth chair at our schools carnival. I visited university of rochester as a football prospect and i fell in love with the schools strength in science and curriculum. the head coach asked me to go early decision. If i do, what are my chances of getting in?
*edit
i also attend a private school in hawaii and I am full chinese.

do you guys need more information?? this is my first post…let me know.

um…it’s going to be a bit difficult because your stats aren’t very good, but the whole recruit thing helps a little bit, so it could go either way.

good chances, since you got recruited. make sure the school knows that you have been recruited…
chance mine?

yeah im doing all my admissions through the coaches. although my stats seem a bit weary, i assure u guys i have have the brains and work ethic to succeed there and I hope to god the school will see that too. I am one of those kids who studies hours on end but may not get the best grade. ■■■

You say that you are attracted to the school’s science department – realize that UofR’s science department is quite difficult. My sister went into UofR as a prospective bio major, and after each final, there were students standing outside of the classroom crying at the difficulty. She wasn’t stupid – she had gotten an A in AP Chem, but she decided to switch to an art major after the first year. Don’t just worry about getting into the school, worry about whether you’ll be able to succeed when you get in, if you’re accepted. If you’re working hard for a 3.1 now…

I have a nephew who was recruited to a Div. III program and the key is that the coach recommended that you go Early Decision. Typically this means that the athletic department/admission committee will be flagging you app for special consideration. Assuming that the coaching staff will be giving its full support to your app, I’d say your chances are very good, though not guaranteed. Of course, ED is binding, so just be sure that UR is truly where you want to go.

i definitely realize that. However I am not scared of hard work. Also for sciences, i genuinely enjoy learning it which makes things a lot easier. I visited the school, talked with the asst. dean of admissions, numerous coaches, and players and I think rochester is the best place for me to be. They said they want me to go ED and I am.

oh and also, my mom told me I would have to drop football if i got in and was failing. And i really wanna be a doctor so i wont let myself fail. and also i dont know if any of you know the wrath of chinese mothers when it comes to bad grades but that is worst than dying. so im sure i will be on top of it.

pwong10 you definitely have a tip factor in your favor as a prospective athlete, I’d say your chances are good.

im glad to hear that i have good chances and also U of R is definitley where i want to go. the curriculum there is excellent and the fact that i have so many different options to choose from with classes/internships etc… although football there is not a huge deal like some other schools, i do not mind that at all.

i got in…

yea, duh… recruit = in
why would you not get in?
