Hi, please chance me! I am planning to apply to: UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, NYU, USC, and Boston University. I want to major in Business.

SAT: 2250 (Verbal: 800; Math: 740; Writing: 710)
SAT IIs:
Bio: 770
Math II: 760

ACT: Planning to take October test.

APs:
Psychology - 5
US History - 4
Biology - 4
Taking AP Stats, AP Government and AP Macroeconomics Senior year

E/Cs:
Speech and Debate Team - 2 years, Multiple finals
Computer Science Club - 2 years, Secretary

Pre-High School
Chess - Won California SuperStates, US Western Open
Choir - Soprano for several years
Piano - Level 5, won several recitals + tournaments

With such a low weighted GPA, you will probably be rejected/waitlisted by every UC that you plan to apply to. The UCs care about GPA a lot more than about SAT scores. I recommend that you apply to UCSB because it is the only UC that is lenient towards students with high SAT scores. It is probably the only mid-tier UC that would accept you.

I had a 2300 SAT score, a 3.66 unweighted GPA, a 4.29 fully weighted GPA, and a 4.00 capped UC GPA. Among the UCs that I applied to, UCB, UCLA, and UCSD rejected me. UCD and UCI waitlisted me.

The GPA’s up there are the UC GPAs.
Thanks for the feedback, but I don’t think I know enough about colleges to chance you for Stanford , but really you should have a good chance at UCB.

@Mangiafuoco, Since you already applied to the UC’s (and got feedback), could you tell me a bit more about your own situation / what you think I can do now (senior year) to improve. Thanks!

For such a competitive school, you won’t have many AP’s completed by the end of senior year. Also, the unweighted GPA is a little on the low side especially since Cal’s business school is really good. Subject tests are okay. Cal and LA will be tough…everything else should be alright in comparison.

That should give you a rough comparison. I think you do have a great chance of getting in. Yes, your weighted GPA is lower than you’d like, but your test scores are great. Just as a wild guess based on the admit rates listed, I’d say you have a 50% chance to get into UCLA and a 50% chance to get into Berkeley, which means maybe a 75% chance to get into either UCLA or Berkeley if you applied to both.
