Chances of UTA?

I'm currently a high school junior, and going through a crisis.
I want to attend UT Austin and hopefully do an internal transfer into Mccombs
I recently took the SAT (2290:800M800CR690W) and plan on taking it again in January (Going for 2350+).
My class rank is pretty poor, 24-30 % (competitive school), and my GPA isn't all that great (3.4 UW, 4.9 W)(I'm also in the IB program, so rigorous course load) , but i do have tons of extracurricular to make up for it (But only about 5-6 leadership positions, 1 international competition that i placed at last year, competing again this year)

UT has changed their auto admission rule for my year, they are making it top 7%, and the rest are holistic review.
My chances of UT Austin?
What major should i apply under to get the internal transfer?

I’d say a low match at this stage.

hi catria, why is it a low match…? i think the SAT scores are really competitive.

The SAT isn’t the weak spot of your application… maybe I was too lenient about UTA. You have a shot for UTA though, so I might say match. Your UTA hopes hinge on whether the adcoms understand how competitive the school is.

Do you have a backup plan?

I’d say he’s in. Even with that rank, UT will not pass up a student of your SAT scores very easily. Also I just saw that he has a 1600/1600. You are definitely into UT Austin itself, maybe probably not the business department. If you want to eventually transfer into business, I think it wouldn’t hurt to do Economics or just be in undergraduate studies for your first year.

Hell, I’d say you have a 50-50 shot at the business department, too. Don’t count yourself out and prematurely accept that you will have to transfer in.

You’re in at UT Austin. They’re not going to close the door to someone with that SAT. Obviously just try to get that GPA for scholarship reasons and such. Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1426652-ohio-state-chances.html#post15139798

To summarize:

McCombs direct: Match
UTA regular: Low match

I was in a position akin to yours not too long ago. By that, I mean last week lol. I had a 2230 sat, 34 act and leadership and extracurricular a that were all pretty solid but I was in the top 18% in my school, also a really competitive schools where I took all the hardest classes. They accepted me, and honors accepted me, and plan 2 accepted me, I think you will get into mccombs no problem, I think ECs + sat score and definitely that international competition are more than enough to overcome that gpa. People on this forum are usually top 10 or better so they might be a bit more cynical. Good luck!

“UTA” stands for UT-Arlington. Don’t call it that. It’s just “UT” or “UT-Austin.”
