Chances of UW

What are my chances of transferring to University of Washington as a sophomore?

High school stats:
Cumulative GPA: 2.6
Act Score: 24

College Stats:
Due to application deadline I will only have 1 quarter of college work to show for (I am not sure if they request your winter/spring quarter grades).
Classes:
Microeconomics: A- (business pre req)
Statistics: A- (business pre req)
Anthropology: A-

Extracurriculars:
Received those grades while playing college soccer for the school. Also while working. Joining the investment club the start of winter quarter. Going to be a member of Phi Thetta Kappa (community college honors society).

I intend on trasferring into the UW College of Arts and Sciences as a sophomore (pre-business). I am interested in finance whether in Seattle or New York and I will explain in my essay how networking is vital in investment banking which is why it is important to get to UW (Seattle) as soon as possible. I also attend a community college in Washington if that helps.

Your chances are low. You do not have a compelling need to transfer early (“I want to network” won’t do). Additionally, by by applying with only three courses completed, you won’t have enough of a college-level record to distract admissions from your 2.6 high school GPA.

I suspect you’ll have to stay at the CC for the second year.

^ That may be true, but don’t let that stop you from giving it your best shot. Emphasize the personal and intellectual growth you have experienced this year. Good luck!

Do you know of any “compelling needs” that I can emphasize in my application?

Thank you I will, did you transfer to UW?

Compelling academic needs – “I have exhausted all the math (or other subject) classes available at my community college.” “The classes I need to take next are not offered at WSU or other campuses in-state.”
