chances, on a 3.0 GPA

yea.. i'm a little nervous applying, but, here goes

3.0 GPA unweighted
have taken all AP, honors, and accelerated since freshman year
AP scores unknown (stupid collegeboard) but probably midrange
2040 SAT (i took the december SAT, dont know that score)

aound 340 volunteer hours, from spending a whole summer volunteering in a ESL kindergarden, also from marine bio camp counseling, athletic training, Relay for Life...

i've been in clubs since freshman year, and have been president of two (Unicef, Treehugger). was in Ballet Folklorico, a dance group at school. am an Athletic Trainer, soo... my extracurrics are prety strong

next semester, i'm running for governor of health, starting to sell crafted things on etsy.com for enviromental charities, will throw parties also benefitting charity, volunteer for Relay for Life extensively.

my extracurriculars, SAT, and difficulty of classes are pretty strong, but will it override my GPA???

I REALLY WANT TO GO TO PITZER!!!!!!!

so will someone be reallly nice and give me an opinion?

What are your grades more specifically, A's and C's or more like all B's? Do you go to a killer high school? Have you gotten high scores on SATIIs? Can't answer without more details.

my grades are basically all A's and C's...

and my high school is the best in our city. the class size is around 950, which is down from 1100 my freshman year- they mostly drop out because of Wilson's tough academics. Its hard to describe my school as one type or another, because we have a lot of kids in all regular and remedial classes, and a lot in all AP and honors, with not many in between. The ones on top though, are really smart. Kids go to Harvard, Stanford, UCLA, USC, and they aren't unusual cases. Well, we do seem to average one Harvard acceptance every four years, but this year, we may have more than just one :). We are a classical school, which means that the school makes us get more credits than our district requires us to.

SAT IIs aren't required for pitzer, so i didnt take them.

here are some guesstamites on AP scores- World Hist- 3 US Hist-3 English Language-4 Art History-1

I did take some classes at city, over the summer- Psychology 1A-B Cultural Anthropology- A Precal-B ( a class I retook becuase I got a C in it in high school). Next semester I will take Intermediate Algebra, at City, because I got C in it in high school.

my high school experience has been kinda wacky, which is why i'm so anxious about acceptance. there arent many people to compare myself to..

do you need any more info?

i live in long beach, CA, about thirty miles from Pitzer. if ethnicity helps, I'm hispanic. my classes this year are...

AP physics
AP french
AP cal
ceramics 1-2
AP studio art
AP English Lit
Honors economy

my grades this year are in the 3.5, 3.7 range, definite improvement from last semester!

next sem i may switch honors econ for AP U.S. government, or switch ceramics for ASB

my schedule is somewhat comparable to what the best over-achievers at my school take

Good luck to you!!

I think you have a very good chance of getting in, especially if you showed improvement as time went on (which I assume is what happened, since you're saying you had high grades this year). Your application seems kind of like the antithesis of mine (I had weak ECs, strong record, similar SATs), and even though I got in, I think you're in the same position, if not a better one, than I was.

I think your application is good, they love extracurricular and volunteer stuff, and you're more than covered in that area. It's definitely not a bad thing that you have to submit your SATs.

good luck on applying! i'm applying there too (I actually want to go to Scripps more). My SATs are bad though (1710.. blah) and my uw gpa is 3.9. keep me posted on how you do :)

go wilson! i know a friend there lol :D

I'm applying to Pitzer too. I'm an international student. I'm desperate to get into one of the Claremont colleges. My SATs are 670 Math, 670 Writing, and 710 CR. I did take SAT II's: 640 Math lvl2 and 760 World History.

I have a pretty strong essay for the Commonapp, I am yet to write the supplemental essay.

My grades havent been all good. I slacked off last year, but I have definitely improved. I have some really good grades and some awful ones so I don't think my grades will be the strength of my application. Do I stand a chance?

You have an incredibly good chance. How bad were your grades? You have very impressive ECs and SATs. When you say bad, do you mean like a B average? C? D? I wouldn't be worried if I were you, you have an incredibly application that demonstrates talent and a lot of outside experience. If your "bad grades" are only some Bs and a transgressive C or two, you should try applying to Pomona as well. You have an impressive application.

Thanks! I am applying to Pomona too. And Claremont McKenna. I'm just struggling with the essays right now. About the grades: we don't have an A,B,C grading system, instead we have term papers scored out of 100. I have some 90's, some 80's, 70's, and also a couple of 60's and a 50. :(

I'm wondering if its possible for me to get into pitzer

I have a 3.2 gpa from fresman and sophmore year
This year I have a 3.6 for the first marking period and plan on keeping that for the rest of the year
My SATs are 760 math 690 english and 670 writing

My main extracurricular activities are boy scouts, rowing, and the political group at my school called You Choose

In boy scout I am Pursuing my eagle and have held a variety of leadership positions
In rowing I have been a coxswain for three years in a top high school program

I only take one honors course which is science each year but senior year i plan on taking two ap's and an honors

I am a white jew

Do you think I can get in.

Do they care greatly about my grade improvment or just my bottom line average GPA?

If you are local, you should come to campus for an interview. They wonder why local students don't come and visit.

No I live in New Jersey

They do interviews in January in New York and you can always do one over the phone.

And they certainly do look at extra-curriculars and "fit" overall. Yet, the academics are still very important. Since they are test optional, it is not the biggest thing that they look for.

What do you think about my chances. I applied ED.

GPA: 4.0 weighted
ACT: 28
APs: English Language- 4, US History- 3

ECs: Presedent of humanitarian organization (and co-founder), 1000 hours of community service, 3 sports varsity, science clubs, debate (including awards), and leadership position drama and music clubs at school.

I interviewed with an admissions officer and visited on Pitzer preview day.

Recomendations:
Teacher- two great
Councler- very good
Headmaster- amazing

Essays- common app: okay
pitzer essay: great

So, what do you think?

sorry grosenthal, I'm going to put my stats up after you because my gpa is similar and I'm wondering the same thing.

My school does not do a 4.0 scale, but my GPA is a 95.6 (weighted)

I have taken 5 AP classes in hs (last year: AP English, AP US, and this year: AP English, AP Psych, AP Stat)

my school's super competitive :( and we don't rank

I'm not sending SATs

-Varsity Swimming/Diving 4 years (Captain, scholar athlete)
-Club Swimming/Diving 10 years (Captain)
*I am not planning on swimming in college

-Reach Out John Jay (school's volunteer club)
-Bridges to Community (I will travel to Nicaragua with this club this coming spring break to build houses there)
-Environmental Club
-Student World Awareness Program

Awards:

Job:
-Lifeguard since 15 years old, summer and winter
-Teach swimming lessons (since 15)

Extra:
-I have been taking a 3 year independent research class, Humanities Research, which is similar to Science Research which many schools have. I am almost done completing my 30 pg thesis paper, and my topic is corruption in developing nations (this might show how Pitzer's student autonomy would work well for me).

**Last summer I went to Brazil for a month to volunteer (I traveled on my own) and I worked in an HIV/AIDS orphanage and in an impoverished preschool. This was the most amazing experience I've ever had!

-Essays: commonapp- guidance counselor and English teacher said it was outstanding
-recs- should be very strong b/c I tend to make strong connections w/ teachers

-Will have interview in 3 weeks

*I have a lot of articles printed in local newspapers discussing my volunteering in Brazil, also 1 about the Hamilton award, and I plan to send them. I also wrote an additional essay about an unusual family circumstance which I think I'm going to send.

~I was really discouraged b/c i was just rejected ed to Pomona, but now I feel that this was for a reason, b/c Pitzer seems to be a better match for me. But, I would really love to know where I stand with Pitzer and what to expect b/c it's the only other place I really want to go to. Thanks!!!

Likes look you would be competitive.

thanks! i hope so :)
