Chances on BC?

Hey all I'm currently a junior, turning senior this fall. I would like to know what are my chances on getting accepted by BC (Boston College).
Heres some of my stats:

I am currently living in NYC

I am about top %25. About 1,200 seniors.

Very competitive school, Best public school in NYC.

GPA: About 3.5 (88) -----> Not great, so I'd like to know.

Sat ---> 1700, would like to break 1800 or even 1900.

Did not take any sat 2's yet, but will take language and math this November. (Lets assume I get around 600-700)

Extra work: Vice president of FBLA (future business leaders of america - club), many volunteer work (around 500 hours in past few years), martial arts for about 7 years, in the basketball program in my school, will join another club my senior year, and law internship.

Will have recommendations from most teachers

Minority

Catholic (alter service since I was 10)

All honor classes (english, spanish, math, and law government) and ap psychology and ap computer.

I think that's about it. Honestly I think I'm in good shape in my extra curriculer activities, sat/satII (soon we'll see the results), and im catholic and a minority which I think is a plus. I would assume my essay we'll be fine, I get like 10/12 of my sat essays, and got 95 on my junior thesis. I will focus a lot on my essay.

The only real problem I see is my gpa. I was hoping to get it over 90, however it fell a little short. I know BC doesn't accept just 95+ students, I herd they accept others even below a 95 average (3.8).

So please tell me my chances. I would like an honest answer. I don't care if I have no chance, or a little chance. I would like an honest answer so that I can see what to improve. Other then my gpa, is there anything else you would like to recommend? I don't think I can get over 2000 on the sats, so I'd like to gun for 1800-1900.

Oh and 1 more thing, I'm not familiar with applying to college. What I mean is, I would like to major in business or law. So when I apply do I have to apply to a certain major? or do I apply to BC and then decide my major? I'd like to major in pre-law since they have 1 of the top law program in the nation. I'd also like to play for their basketball team, however it's D1 so it's extremely hard, but I will try my best.

Thank You,
- K

hey u never know u might be able to play 4 their bball team this year, lol, they got rocked by all the ACC powerhouses like hasbrough danny green and company of NC, Harold and Kumar, CLemson, and got waxed by Big 12 Kansas with Mario Chalmers, Rush, Sasha Khan

u could fill in for PG for Tyreese Rice, hes a bum

anyways more realistically id say u dont have a chance with that low SAT score, and low SAT 2's, ur GPA is fine though, so ur copmplaining bout the wrong thing buddy

acceptance chance- nil

Really my gpa isn't bad? my college counselor told me my gpa was bad and most bc's needed 3.8+. I guess I have no choice but to aim for 2100. and 700+ in sat 2's.

About the basketball, BC still D1, so I'm sure it'll be hard either way. I'd love to fill the pg position, currently a PG position my self at 6'1. Still need to gain some muscle tho if I'm ever going to play for a college basketball team. Is there red-shirt for BC basketball? If so, I might be interested in that.

So no chance at all?

Thanks for the honest response.

So what would people need in order to have a chance at BC?
2200+ on sat?

Also, how's my chances on BU and MU?

Is Tyreese Rice really that bad? I saw his stats and they seem good.

I don't play for my current hs team. I could not try out as I injured my leg during my soph year, and junior year I had something to do, bad case of luck. However I played for other teams not in schools, like junior knicks, etc. But I am in the program as the Coach trains me. Hopefully I can join the team later this year. I'm 6'1, 160 pounds.

Also, Is it possible getting accepted to a d1 college by redshirt? Or is that only for people who get accepted by the college first?

P.S. Do you mean tyler hansbrough? Well he's NBA bound.

lol first of all, nba bound does NOT mean he's going to the nba this season. It means he's going to go there sooner or later. I think everyone knows hansbrough is staying for another year as a Tarheel. The reason I said he's NBA bound is because you said have fun while he's on the court, and I second that by saying he's an NBA bound. And whats the point of criticizing someone when you don't understand them? I highly recommend that you don't call someone a retard when you don't know what their talking about. Makes you look like a fool.

No hate intended, just saying.

Thank you

and i think its pretty obvious ur joking about actually playing for BC so did u think u were rlly funny r something, and if u rlly do have a 1700 and were not lying then u will defiently not get in cuz that is a miserable score

correct me if I'm wrong, but college's look at your best score from each section correct? So technically I can still take the sat a few more times. If I end up getting a higher score, how would that make me have no chance at all? Again, you still didn't tell me the reason what their looking for.
And I wasn't joking about the basketball team either, if I can't make the team, I will try redshirt.

Can someone else give advice? Thank you

Your ECs definitely look good. I know BC takes community service and religious preference into consideration and you're at an advantage in both categories. You do have a chance (though it's going to be a reach) but make sure you get your SAT I scores up as high as possible - 700 per section if you can. Same applies to your SAT IIs. You can't do anything about your GPA at this point and a 3.5's going to hurt (I think the middle 50% is a 3.7 or so).

About majors, you may want to go in as undeclared so you don't limit your options. If you declare a major in business, you'll be up against others who also declared a business major, and you'll be out of luck if they run out of positions in that department. It MIGHT be advantageous to apply undeclared since you're not limited to a single department. ED might also help.

College Search - Boston College - BC - SAT®, AP®, CLEP®

Average SAT around 2000, but BC reports 2100 is average. I suggest you take the ACT instead or take some SAT classes to get your scores way up. Your GPA isnt too bad, although it hurts you a bit, but it's your SATs that kill you.

Comm service is great there. Stress that alot in your essay or make sure your essays is beastly

So If I can bring my sat's to over 2000, I will have a shot at BC? Also, don't you think act is a little too late? I herd theres science on it, and science is not my strongest subject.

How about other schools such as
North Eastern University
Boston University

Lastly, is University of Michigan and NYU harder or easier to get into then BC?

I will try my best to reach over 2000 on the sats.

Thank you

NYU is about the same as BC, maybe slightly less selective. Personally, I think BU's a good fit for you.

Good luck on your apps!
