Chances OOS?

Hey all. I'm a junior right now at a competitive public school. So far I'm thinking about applying to UCB under the College of Natural Resources (btw, how big is CNR?)

[Academics]
GPA: 3.96
WGPA: 4.75
No rank
Courseload: 5 college prep courses, 9 honors, 8 AP, 2 at Princeton University, 1 independent study on environmental studies; skipped 2 years of math, 1 year of programming, 1 year of chemistry, and 1 year of music theory; exhausted all bio courses at my school, so I'm taking 200-level classes with Princeton students next year --> hardest courseload in my grade

[Test scores]
SAT M: 800
SAT CR: 720
SAT W: 720
SAT II Bio: 800
SAT II Chem: 800
SAT II Math 2: 800
AP's sophomore year: Computer Science A 5; self-studied Biology 5 and Environmental Science 4
AP's junior year: Calculus AB, Chemistry, English Language; self-studying Human Geography, Psychology, Statistics

[Primary extracurriculars and TERMINAL officer positions]
Environmental Club - President (and founder)
Debate League - President
Tutoring Society - President
Amnesty International - Vice President
Model United Nations - Vice President

French National Honor Society
Science Club
Soccer

[Recognitions]
USA Biology Olympiad semifinalist (top 500 in the nation)
NJ Science League qualification and certificates
NJ Governor's School on the Environment nominee, finalist, then the program was canceled
AIME qualifier (115 AMC 12)
Shore Bowl quarterfinalist and team captain
NJ Scholars Program (humanities focus) nominee, finalist, scholar
Princeton University Moot Court Tournament seventh place team/quarterfinalist
Colonial Valley Conference fourth place team
Varsity Policy and Lincoln-Douglas debate teams
JPMorgan Chase Lincoln-Douglas Tournament Award
AP Scholar last year, hopefully National AP Scholar this year
...And some other small stuff

[Summer activities]
2003 - travel in Europe and Asia
2004 - skipped 2 courses
2005 - skipped 1 course, worked as a tutor
2006 - NJ Scholars Program, Environmental Management course through Harvard SSP, JSA symposium on leadership and politics, maybe getting a job and/or a course or two at the local CC if possible

I've explored the fields of biology and public policy throughout high school, and they overlap nicely in the field of environmental studies, which I plan to major in in college.

What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for any comments. :)

Bump. Anybody?

UCB: match/safe-match

I think, with those stats, you'd be just as well off aiming for strong privates.

Perhaps, but (almost) none of them could compare to the opportunities available at Berkelye. :)

I would seriously reconsider applying to Berkeley unless you can pay because you will get almost no grants/scholarships from them for an out of state student.

Really? On the UCLA board someone said I might get some money. So they definitely don't give out any merit aid?

like quirkily said, you should just go to the ivies. you're wasting your money if you apply to berkeley, esp with those stats. you'll probably save money by going to a private and getting huge financial packages, which you'll most likely get.

no matter how much "opportunities" people say there are at berkeley, it still doesn't compare with the ivies.

I only got 3k in grants and the rest I have to loan even though my EFC is around 10k.

Thanks for your advice. Would you recommend not applying at all? I wasn't going to consider any UC's at first because I feel totally disadvantaged paying more out of state and I've heard bad things concerning how huge the schools are. I was under the impression that, since Rutgers is as big as UCLA and Berkeley it'd be wiser to attend in-state to save money. Then I realized that UCLA and Berkeley offer much better facilities and resources than Rutgers in my field of interest.

TAWS - so you're saying Berkeley is stingy with aid? Hm...

yeah ur totally fine...my stats were lower than urs (but i had a lotta EC's and awesome recs) and i still got in. I think ur SAT 2 scores will help you..cuz we got the same ones! lol..now if its a matter of going..u've got ivy material stats so you're gonna have to pick...but u will def. get into Berkeley...good luck!

Thanks, belleza4404. And about the aid... I think I'll just apply and see what happens. Admission should be my first concern right now, not aid.

whoops i meant to add that I still got in OOS

Oh haha I just assumed that because I didn't think anyone good enough to get into Berkeley would compare in-state and OOS stats... haha

haha, u give me too much credit then cuz i'm pretty much lacking common sense! but thanks anyways...good luck again! :)

Haha thanks!
