Also, my family and I will be moving to Virginia when I go to college, whether that is in Va. or anywhere else in the country remains to be seen! My father works in Virginia, but has only been there for a few months so I am not considered an in-state resident.

I am wondering what my chances would be to transfer from a college in Va., I am applying to James Madison University and Virginia Tech, with a good GPA (3.8-4.0) at those schools, and be in-state when I submit my transfer applicancy?

If possible could you evaluate my chances on transferring to W&M as well, after my first year of college?

you have to set up permenant residency in VA for atleast a year, maybe even two, to be considered in-state...so, even by next year when you apply to transfer, you're still OOS...
my suggestion? apply to all four schools, pick they best, then re-apply for transfer if you want to...W&M isnt as tough on OOS as UVA or even VT...as for JMU, you're probably in...you have a tough courseload, decent ECs, and with good recs and essays, you have a good shot at all four schools, so definently apply to all

I think you are in at James Madison and Virginia Tech. Honestly, your gpa will, in all likelihood, keep you out of UVA and W&M. You probably do not want to hear this, but if you really want UVA, your best transfer opportunity will be from a Virginia community college to UVA’s College of Arts and Sciences after two years. You only need a 3.4 gpa -- there is an agreement in effect. You should get a hold of it.
