I plan to apply to the School of Social Work and School of Education because i want to to help young teens with behavioral problems or help kids that having learning disabilities or are mentally handicapped. For the essay A portion I am going to write about how my brother who has behavioral issues and learning disability has impacted me and how has made me want to go into profession that can helps kids like him. I might also write a special circumstances essay explaining how everyday during my freshmen year I commuted from Northwest Indiana to Chicago Illinois to go to school. I know that my chances are long shot compares to everyone else but does applying and having an application tailored to those schools help my chances out at all? I really want to go to UT because first it is amazing school in phenomenal city and lastly has a renowned Special Education Department and a great Social Work major

thanks for taking the time to share your inputs

I’d try to get the ACT scores up a few points to around a 30-ish, since it would be around average for an OOS applicant.

Some stats:

Automatically Admitted Texas Students:

SAT (out of 2400): 1791
ACT Composite: 26

Non-top 10% Texas Students:

SAT (out of 2400): 1901
ACT Composite: 29

Out-of-State Students:

SAT (out of 2400): 1926
ACT Composite: 29

International Students:

SAT (out of 2400): 1782
ACT Composite: 25

For your desired schools the average is a bit less:

Social Work:
SAT-1696
ACT-25

Education:
SAT-1695
ACT-25

Your ACT is the average for the schools you want to get into, but it’s kind of different because your school doesn’t rank and you’re OOS.

Do you have any idea of where you stand class wise? Like if your school ranked you would be in the top 10, 15, or 20%? Your UW GPA (out of 4.0 correct?) looks pretty good in my opinion.

Also, have you taken the SAT yet? If you haven’t, I’d recommend trying out a few practice tests and seeing how well you do on it. Some people score better on the ACT, some the SAT, so if you haven’t explored that option yet, it wouldn’t hurt to see how you do.

Social Work and Education are the two easiest to apply to, actually.

I don’t know your chances. But, I like your user name, White Sox rule!

New Trier is a relatively competitive high school in Illnois, isn’t it?
Your GPA is a bit on the low side.

hell yeah longhorndan, those sox are in first place baby. yeah xtra it’s one of the top 3 in the state, but i decided to check my naviance for once and saw that kids with lower and similar stats got into UT, so i may have some tiny hope! haha

Yes. I recall a Geometry book I used- Geometry for enjoyment and challenge used by my high school. The problems in there was challenging.
