Chances: Penn, MIT, Cornell, NYU, UCB

I'm applying to colleges next year, but it'd be great to hear some feedback 'bout where I stand right now.

I'm interested in finance, and Wharton is definitely my first choice! (But I'm also considering the Huntsman program at Penn, for those of you who are familiar with it.)

[/ul]A simple "reach/match/safety" for each school would be appreciated. More in depth responses would be fantastic.

Thanks, you guys!

bump! anyone?

Penn- Match/High Match- friend got in to Wharton ED this year with lower GPA and lower SAT/SAT II but had more EC’s including 2/3 sports per year

MIT- not sure really but I’d say high match- friend was accepted to MIT with slightly lower GPA, slightly lower SAT, again though had some more EC’s so not sure on that

NYU and Cornell I don’t want to say are safeties but I’d be surprised if you wern’t accepted- alot of ppl from my school apply to these colleges because I’m in NY and you have better stats than alot of them

UC Berkeley- you probably know more about than me being from Cali but i’d assume you’d probably be able to get in.

Chance me back:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/853398-chance-me-university-southern-california-usc-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

You look like a good candidate. Just don’t try to use Chinese as your target language.

cdr - I’d be glad to chance you back, 'cept I’m not really sure how to chance people accurately. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be asking for chances myself. Thanks for the input though!

hmom - Does doing Chinese (my own native language) hurt my chances for Huntsman?

WhartonED-Match
Stern-High Match
Sloan-Reach
Cornell-High Match
Berkley-In

Good Luck!

Thanks, michiganfalls!

I’m just wondering though, why would Wharton be a match when Sloan is a reach school? I know that Wharton likes math and leadership, and I guess I fit that criteria okay, but what about Sloan?

Thanks again!

bump? :)

Not to be offensive, but Wharton is certainly not a match. Like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, etc., Wharton is one of many top schools that are truly reaches for everybody. When a person thinks they covered all the ground and bases, it may come to shock when they really do get rejected. Of course, probability is most likely in your favor if you apply to a multitude of the top schools. You seem to lack strong ECs, which often is what determines a candidate’s acceptance into the top schools.

edit: wow, I made a LOT of grammatical errors in this post. Please ignore them, haha. :)

Being Asian from an overrepresented state definitely hurts you, but you do have strong academics and you are applying ED so I think your chances are pretty decent. Also, there aren’t very many girls who are interested in finance.

Definitely apply to the Huntsman program, you can always drop out later if you don’t like it.

Hey thanks 187 and Awped!

What do you suggest for stronger ECs though? I know it’s almost too late to do much now, but I have a younger sister and I think that knowledge would benefit her, especially because she is interested in business and finance too.

Thanks for taking the time to chance me(:

Your OP is so organized and well-formatted!

Penn - Wharton ED: middle reach, because of the ED
MIT - Sloan: high reach
NYU - Stern: match
Cornell: low reach
UC Berkeley: match

You need to take another SAT II if you’re applying to MIT. They require one in the sciences, so chem, phys, or bio. I wish someone had warned me so I could have taken Chem right after I finished AA (Honors) Chem in 10th grade. Instead, I sat it after no sciences in junior year when I was only 2 months into AP Chem. I still got in, but I had a 670 and a 640 (awful!) on the retake.

I think your commitment to your ECs is at a good level. Looking at them and doing a quick metal comparison to mine, it sounds like, if the Charles Schwab internship is a summer thing, you might have enough free time to do one more, but I think you’re fine.

Thanks millancad! It took me a while to get the hang of
the formatting.

Thanks for the feedback; I think I won’t apply to Sloan after all, because there’s probably a lot of other math and science kids who are
more qualified than I am…especially Asian kids, applying there too. Please ignore the grammatically confusing formatting of that last sentence(:

get some more leaderships and or award and you’re in!

Penn - Wharton ED - Reach
MIT - Sloan - Reach
NYU - Stern - Match
Cornell - High Match
UC Berkeley - Match

Oh and try not to use Chinese as your target language for Huntsman, because they discourage native speakers using their native language. Huntsman strives to expand students’ horizons and advocates pursuing non-native languages.

with scores like that id say u have a good chance at all of them.

im having computer troubles idk if my other post went through but in it i said that i think you have a good chance at all of them. that sat score is sure to make them look twice! i wouldnt mind a chance back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/861966-chance-me-please-cmu-cornell-wvu-others.html</a> :)
