Chances please! Also, BS/MD?

Asian, female, pretty good public school in NJ – sends a decent number of kids to top-tier schools every year.

SATs: 800 M, 790 CR, 770 W
SAT2s: 800 Math 2, 760 Chem. Taking Bio in June, planning on a 750+
PSATs 238, so I’m betting on National Merit finalist at least…

4.57 GPA weighted…not sure of my unweighted GPA, but it’s very close to 4.
My school doesn’t rank, but I’m definitely in the top 5/~650 at least
I’ve taken the hardest classes available at my school. Took AP Calc BC as a sophomore, got a 5.

I’ve volunteered at the local hospital since 10th grade (~80 hrs so far, and I do 3.5 hrs a week, so this will continue to go up)
Key club – 10th, 11th
Big Brothers/Big Sisters – 10th, 11th
NHS – 11th
Columbia Science Honors Program – 10th, 11th
Academic Bowl – 9th, 10th, 11th. Will possibly be captain next year.
Co-founder of my school’s math club – 11th
Co-editor of my school’s literary magazine – 10th, 11th
Play in my local youth symphony – 9th, 10th, 11th
Have organized an ensemble for and played in local charity fundraisers – 10th, 11th
Pit band – 10th, 11th

If it helps at all I did track and was a student gov. representative in 10th grade, but I don’t do these this year and don’t really plan to include these on my apps.

Hopefully, I’ll get good recommendations…

Chance for:
Swarthmore
Northwestern
William + Mary
Dartmouth
Brown
Yale

I was also wondering about BS/MD programs, such as Brown 8-yr...or any program, really. (I know, it’s a long shot)

Thanks so much!!

Are you a martian? Because that always helps in admissions acceptance, especially if you are a legacy martian at yale. Maybe add “clam fart” to your application.

But seriously, I think you’re a def in at Swarthmore, William and Mary, and Northwestern. You have a really great chance at Yale, Brown, and Dartmouth. I’d say you could relax. I don’t know much about med programs, can’t help you there, sorry.

I think you should make room for track unless you have another sport. I regret not doing sports. :\ But you can only put 7 EC’s, so you should pick the ones you’re more passionate about or that have some sort of focus. If you have room, you can mention them in your essays, if you can tie them in.

And I think you’re in at most. I’ve seen Brown make some weird acceptances/rejections (like rejecting people who got into HYPS), and Yale is always a crapshoot. Brown 8-yr is plausible for you. Just work on those essays and get those recs in early, and I think you’re set! :)

hahah that’s the best thread on the site
Thanks guys…anybody else?

Swarthmore- high match
Northwestern- high match
William + Mary - match
Dartmouth- high match (unself-selecting applicant pool)
Brown- low reach
Yale- reach for all
Brown 8-yr- A reach because its superduper competitive
Rice/BMC - low reach
NWern Med - reach (very very competitive)

Great stats!

Chance me back:

thanks…chanced back

Brown PLME is ridiculously hard to get in… There are some other programs like WashU, Rice-Baylor, and Northwestern you could look into. There’s a 6-year BS/MD program at UMKC that’s not as difficult as PLME to get into (if I remember right) but you’d have to work your butt off.

You are lacking in a couple areas, and this really looks like the “typical” Ivy applicant right now. Be sure to make your ECs not look like a grocery list (because it does look like one), and find a way to make yourself look unique/standing-out from others if you want to have a good shot.

thanks geekorathletic, any suggestions?

sooo bump/update…

Got a 790 on SAT2 Bio and a (short because of my crazy schedule this summer) internship-type thing with a lab at a local univ., going to governors school this summer as well

I’ll chance back!
