Hi can u guys chance me for the following schools?
Notre Dame
USC
UCLA
Michigan
Penn State
GPA: UW: 3.88, W: 4.19
SAT: 660 CR, 700 W, 800 M
AP: 4 as Junior, 5 as Senior next year.
Rank: N/A
White Catholic Male from Medium Sized Central NJ Public School.
ECs: 3 years of Varsity Lacrosse as goalie, 1 year on JV. Eagle Scout. 4 years of nationally awarded robotics team (finance team on robotics team). 1 Eagle Palm (post-Eagle Award). Worked at Ice Cream shop for 2 years. First aid and lifeguard certified.
So… should I apply early for any? Notre Dame is my dream school. I visited South Bend last fall and saw a football game there and loved it. I don’t need financial aid. Undecided for major, but leaning towards business/finance. Also, what should I right for my essay?
Notre dame is closer to $63000 per year and transportation home at holidays is very expensive. That said, you should get that SAT reading score up if you are serious about going to ND. Otherwise your stats look good for a shot at all of these schools. If you have 5’s on APs send those in too. Also send in any very high SAT2 scores to show that you have mastered the subjects you have taken at your high school. Last, check naviance at your high school to get a good idea of your chances. The one essay idea to NOT pursue is the “injured ACL/sports injury changed my perspective on life” topic as the ND admission officer said that they get hundreds of those at ND. Funny because Vanderbilt admissions said, “Please, no “mission trip” essays!” Each school definitely has its own character.
Let’s say I can afford ND, naviance, shall we? Then what do I need to improve and what are my chances at PSU, Mich, UCLA, USC, BC, Illinois and any others in that range?
Like Naviance said, you likely need to improve your CR score, as it currently is in the 25th percentile for ND. Minus any hooks, you are similar to thousands of other applicants to ND. Good student, Catholic, played a varsity sport. Assuming you listed all your EC’s, they look a bit thin. My advice, other than taking another shot at the SAT, would be to develop a relationship with your regional rep. He or she can give advice as to whether EA would be appropriate. Also make sure your supplements really showcase that you understand the mission of the university and would be a good fit. I have two kids who are current ND students, so if I can be of any other help, feel free to pm me.
