Chances? Please answer!!

I'm from out of state and am wondering what my chances are to get into Texas A & M. My volunteer hours are kind of diminutive. Also, does anyone know if A&M at College Station will be offering Neuroscience for a minor (or even a major) 100%?

You're only 10 SAT points short (1300 required) of being an academic auto-admit, which does not require in-state status. You'll probably get in on just your SAT V+M and your GPA. The ECs look real good. The only thing that would improve your chances would be a change of gender. (Just kidding - I don't know what your gender is.)

Just remember that my opinion is probably worth what you paid for it, though.

i'm oos with a 2.8 GPA
but i have a 1340 sat
that's auto-admit?

From the A&M web site:

"Applicants qualify for automatic academic admission, if:
they are ranked in the top quarter of their graduating class, achieve a combined SAT Math and SAT Critical Reading score of at least 1300 with a test score of at least 600 in each of these components; or achieve a composite ACT score of at least 30 with a test score of at least 27 in ACT Math and ACT English. Students must take the writing component of the SAT and/or ACT in order for the test score to be considered, have successfully taken all recommended course work, ensure all required credentials are received by the freshman closing date."

So i'm all set i guess

That doesn't qualify me for auto academic admission. I don't have a 30 composite on the ACT, my English score was 29, my Math score was 25, and I'm 10 points from the SAT requisite. I may be in the top quarter of my graduating class, but I don't believe that applies to out-of-state applicants, since I've heard that A&M isn't big on accepting anyone except people from Texas, not giving any leeway for people like me. Not that I'm spiteful or anything.

Oh, and I'm a guy. I'm not sure becoming a girl would improve my chances of getting into a college. It may help if I wanted to go to a dance club for free and pick up guys, but otherwise I don't see much advantage since I'm also straight. But thanks for replying!

Does anyone happen to know if people in college can take the ACT/SAT? I'll be transferring no matter what college I go to into a different one my second year, and I am quite unsatisfied with my results, since people that are in like in 25/363 in class rank can outdo me. But then again, I shouldn't have splurged on Taco Bell the day before the ACT. It also didn't help that I virtually studied for about 1-2 weeks tops for that test.

Everything that I've read says that the 1300 SAT (min 600 each) + top 1/4 of class auto-admit rule applies to all students, not just in-state. (The top 10% rule applies just to in-state, of course.) Unfortunately, though, it's too late to get those additional 10 SAT points.

i thought A&M were focusing on getting a more diverse school and thereby admitting more oosers and minorities.

You are all set? Are you really top 25% of your class with a 2.8? Not trying to be mean or anything, but that seems like a really low GPA for top quarter.

You have absolutely nothing to worry about, mirasaki.
