a major factor is if you’re applying for aid
If you are then I would say all your schools are reaches except for Virginia and UCSD

and congratulations on Michigan!! (:

chance me back please?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/838981-chances-brown-duke-uchicago-northwestern-international-tufts.html

Hi Rumjhum:

Not applying for aid for any of them. How does that affect my chances then?

Cheers

Hey, kfong, what school?

King George V School, an upper end private school

i would say that you have a good shot at all of them! ur scores are good and the fact that ur not applying for aid will help u as well. good luck!

Chance me also then since we share similar demographics.

Applying to MIT, RIT, RPI, UCB, UCLA, Toronto.

My view: MIT (nope), RIT (in), RPI (reach), UCB (not in my life), UCLA (just), Toronto (don’t send in SAT scores, match)

Top 1% of class (20)
Top 10% of grade (60)

December SAT Reasoning: (very bad, no retake)
CR 560 M 740 W 620 (1300, 1920)

January SAT II Subject: (all good)
Physics Math Level 2 (best 2 subjects, expect 750+)

Courses - IB (Predicted grade 39/42)
Standard level: Chinese A2 (6), Geography (6), Chemistry (7)
Higher level: English A1 (6), Physics (7), Mathematics (7)

Essays and recommendations: very nice, maths and physics, for MIT, I chose English over maths.

More on Extra curricular, work experience later.

Extra curricular

 • member of chess club and chess player for 8 years
 • flash animation and game making (earned a few dollars :P)
 • good table tennis player
 • senior member of music office choir for 5 years (you know MO right?)
 • vice patrol leader of scouts association
 • write articles (poems, articles, walkthroughs for games, etc.)
 • I play all sorts of sports actually

Work experience

 • summer job at law firm
 • summer job at software company as a tutor instructing students how to use Autodesk to make 3D animation to participate in annual 3D animation contest in Hong Kong (wow that was long)
 • Crossroads Foundation volunteer

Fun thing: I’m 15 right now.

King George V? YC here.

Ok…well I think that a good indicator of your chances at Stanford and UPenn is your rejection from UChicago. You probably know by now that UChicago has a much higher admission rate than Stanford and Penn and is therefore somewhat less selective (although it does rival the ivies in academics). You’ll probably get into Virginia and UCSD. Congrats on Michigan and good luck!

Hahaha no problem, send me the link of your thread when you’ve updated it

I’d say your SAT is a bit of a worry for MIT, but your IB, recommendations and essays can definitely get you into MIT and every other school on your list. But the fact that you’re 15 changes you from “another great 17 yr old student” to “zomg this 15 yr old guy is pro”

Lol. Thanks. I will be back in a few minutes.

Okay.

Stanford University (just)

University of Pennsyvania (reach)

Cornell University (just)

Northwestern University (match)

University of Virginia (don’t know)

University of California: Berkeley (just), Los Angeles (reach) and San Diego (in)

the order i rank
not in your life (this is very bad) < nope < just < reach < match < in (although not necessarily)

Stanford University-reach

University of Pennsyvania-reach

Cornell University-low reach

Northwestern University-low reach

University of Virginia- low reach

University of California: Berkeley, Los Angeles and San Diego-match and low reach

Regulars:

 • Stanford University - high reach
 • University of Pennsylvania - reach
 • Cornell University - low reach
 • Northwestern University - low reach
 • University of Virginia - high match
 • University of California: Berkeley, Los Angeles and San Diego - match

Sorry i cant give a good chance because im on my phone but i think yours schools r reaches because ur intl n asking for aid. if u were american i think ud have a better shot.

Stanford and Penn are reaches. Cornell and Northwestern are low reaches. Berkeley and UVA are matches. And UCSD is a low match.

nope not asking for aid

Good decent stats and a slew of ECs. Being international is going to help the diversity factor in this as well…

Stanford University - reach
University of Pennsyvania - reach
Cornell University - low reach
Northwestern University - low reach
University of Virginia - low reach
University of California: Berkeley, Los Angeles and San Diego - match/low reach

Ivies - reach
Stanford - reach
Rest - match

I think you’ll get into all the schools. You have a great shot
