female from small town in delaware.
SAT: 2100/2400, 1380/1600 (700 reading, 720 writing, 680 math)
SATII: 690 literature, 650 math (awful, i know.)
GPA: weighted 4.5/4.25, unweighted probably around 4.20/4.25
class rank: not confirmed yet, but around 6/230

Classes: As a freshman I only took honors-level English and history classes, but as a sophomore I transferred into everything else honors as well. I'm not sure if that will hurt me or show that I was challenging myself. My school offers literally next to no AP classes. I'm currently taking AP Calculus and while my English class this year wasn't technically AP, it was a college-level E110 class for credit.

Extracurriculars: National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Interact Club, Key Club, Leo Club, Student Council. I have been very active in these activities, most of which are service-based and I have accumulated hours helping around the community. Again, my school does not offer much to do, if anything, especially not in the range of competitions of any sort. That's why it makes me want to cry when I see all these kids who went to competitions for this and that, just because I haven't had that opportunity. I also play piano, but it is more of a hobby, I'm not hardcore about it.

Other info: I realize I seem very dull, but I put a lot of spark and personality into my essays that will most certainly make me stand out (I hope). My recommendations are from the department chairs of both the English and math departments of my school and are both excellent. I also was homeschooled for five years through elementary and part of middle school; I noted this on my application and explained how it taught me to be an independent thinker. Cliche, but very true.

I think that's it... please let me down easy.

I think you stand a very good shot ...good luck. Follow your dreams! You'll make it, and just be open to the notion that your Creator's dreams for you may not always be your dreams. Hang loose and go get 'em. I'll bet you're anything but "dull." You simply need to back up from the mirror a bit. Perspective is everything.

You seem like a strong candidate to me, too. If you lived in-state, you'd probably be a shoo-in. As you know, W & M OOS admissions are glitchy, more so for females. But you've written well here (nothing "dull" about it!), so your essays probably came off well, too. And I do think W & M puts much emphasis on recs.

Also, your SAT scores put you in the running; your GPA/rank, even more so. You've certainly done what you can. Light a figurative candle once in a while and distract yourself by enjoying senior year until decisions are mailed. My fingers are crossed for you! :)

Oh, thank goodness. I was so scared I would get on here and see replies like "Your chances are slim and none!" I guess I have a habit of selling myself short sometimes, but I suppose I have extra doubts with WM just because I want to go there so badly. I was already nervous, but a couple of weeks ago, my friend told me our valedictorian last year '07 applied to WM and was rejected. Needless to say, that instilled plenty of fear in my heart. But... all I know is that this is going to be a long couple of months!

I was nervous too when I applied to W&M...its been my dream school for the past four years...i was very nervous the week before i got my acceptance packet. I'd say you have a good shot, and do the supplement!

The Admission's Department is pretty familiar with what each high school offers and as long as you've taken a challenging curriculum -for your school- you're fine.

Don't compare yourself to anyone else because you never know exactly what that other person's application was like.

WM was my daughter's dream school, also. She was an OOS female and was very concerned. She was admitted and loves the school. I think you have a very good chance. Stay positive!!

I'm also curious as to what schools you were referring to, tomahawk. Since I think that admission to W&M is even pushing it for me, I'm not sure if I could get in anywhere "better".

OOS females face the toughest competition in the W&M admissions process. However, you've got a real shot at it. SAT scores are on the lower side, but still within the middle 50%. Class rank of 6/230 puts you within the top 3%, which is excellent. Assuming your application and essay were equally strong, I'd say your chances are better than 50/50.
