I am a white female and I do not have either parent (considered an independent student). My school (I didn't realize this until it was too late) is NOT competitive at all. AP classes you sign up for not apply to. There was ONLY one person who applied to an Ivy (and was rejected), and in general, there isn't much competition or room to stand out. Almost everyone is going to either a local or in-state school by choice. I had taken AP chem and honors physics my junior year... this lead me to change my career path and realize the only thing I got from either of them was a strong dislike for both subjects. I received Cs (high/mid) in both of them. Otherwise my grades are As and Bs. I plan on studying International Relations instead of becoming a CSI. This year I am taking AP Calc, Govt, Econ, 3D Art, and Anatomy which is sort of like AP Bio without the test. Not much else is offered. Students taking bottom low classes can beat out an honors student easily here. Im 13th percentile right now.

GPA:Freshman 94.59%, Sophomore 94.89%, Junior 93.67%, Senior 97.90%

SATs: M-690 CR-680 W-540 (I'm retaking in June... also I am going to take the ACT in June.)
SATIIs: Math(1):600 US History:510 Spanish: Not posting. It's THAT bad... (I don't have enough courage to take these again. I was ill prepared.)

Essays were worked and tweaked to death for months. One in particular was on pirating in Somalia (which is now getting much more media attention). Interview for one of the schools went over by 45 minutes (as in, it went fabulously :))
