I AM VERY FOND OF THE SOCIAL SCIENCES AND WOULD LIKE TO MAJOR IN THEM. I COME FROM A PREDOMINATELY LATINO COMMUNITY IN THE CENTRAL VALLEY IN CALIFORNIA WHERE MOST OF THE STUDENTS DROP OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL AND DO NOT ATTEND A FOUR YEAR UNIVERSITY. MY FUTURE ASPIRATION IS TO TARGET COMMUNITIES SUCH AS MINE, AND HELP MORE AND MORE STUDENTS BE AWARE OF COLLEGE AND THE BENEFITS OF LEARNING etc...

So what do you think??? Do I have a chance???

You say that GPA is weighted.
What is your unweighted GPA?
I think that would provide a better judgment call.

i hope your SAT went well saturday. you shoulda tried the ACT, some people do better on that. pero, tienes que sacar dos mas subject tests i think...vas a sacarlos en enero? you still have time. but if you can't it says "If you cannot meet these testing requirements, please contact the Admission Office as soon as possible."

otherwise, your rank is great and i think it looks really good that you took all those college classes and got A's. it shows you can handle college work.

I would disagree with Semper. High GPA/rank coupled with low test scores usually means that the applicant comes from a crappy school. IMO, if you get a 2100+ you have a legitimate chance. Until then, well...

you need better test scores to have a chance

ooh ooh ooh URM

You need better scores

I know 2 URM's (African American) with SAT I's of 1890 and 2160, and one or two SAT II's in the 700's. One goes to a high school ranked 58th in usnwr rankings, the other goes to a private HS that is even better. Both have an athletic hook. Also, I have seen URM's on CC who claim to be at the regular targets for SAT I, II, plus grades and at good schools. If you are compared to them it is not so good.

However, what is unknown is how the university deals with allocating URM slots. From that perspective you may be fine. In the end you are in the same boat as everyone else, you will have to just sweat it out. Take the Jan test and try to improve.

my HS is top 60 on that list and it's 50% "ooh ooh URM," so I know plenty of Blacks and Latinos with SAT scores above 2100. I myself am a URM with a 2200, but I really don't think it's so simple as "allocating URM slots" to the colored kids with the highest scores. I know plenty of Black kids who have gotten rejected from top schools with 2200's and an equal number who have gotten accepted with 1900's. Last year, three of my Black friends got rejected from Yale and they all had above 2100, while another got into Princeton with an 1800. The original poster may have lower test scores, but often I think a URM with a 3.9 and 1700 from a very impoverished community is more impressive than a wealthy 2100 URM. What's more, he retook the test Saturday.
People on this board tend to think URM cases are the simplest to predict; when really, I think it's quite the opposite. There are so many unique factors that affect a minority student's application that I'd venture to guess it's even less of a numbers game. At the very least, it's certainly not more of one as I think you guys are making it out to be.
Just...best of luck gman.

Fluent and spanish but 690 on spanish sat II.
Even if you are a poor test taker. I just don't get it.

I also received the same score my senior year on the SAT II spanish and I am also fluent. My AP Span Lang was a 5 but it makes no sense. I say your test scores are holding you back a little bit. I had an 1890 (man why do i remember this stuff) but i'm in college now. (A pretty good one by today's standards) Your stats kinda resemble mine (except you do more). Finally, two of the most important parts of the application. The essay and interviews. Thats basically what got me in.

^the op got in ea to stanford, if you can believe that

Stanford's ok i guess, if u like underachieving

lol, yeah stanford is full of slackers. apaprently their projected acceptance rate is 5% this year. damnit.

and yeah im shocked about the spanish SATII thing. I guess I am pretty fluent in Spanish as a second language but I got an 800 on the SATII and a 5 on the AP exam

anyway though, i would not count on princeton to be honest. although test scores arent everything, yours are extremely low for the school. I dont mean to be rude, but its better to be realistic about the whole process

P.S. did you honestly get into stanford? i find that extremely hard to believe. my friend was rejected having been the valedictorian of my high school (which is extremely competitive), gotten a 2400 on his SATs, taken 11 APs (and having gotten 5s on all the tests he had taken), being the president of 4 prominent clubs, and being enrolled in the columbia science honors program, among MANY other qualifications. it doesnt seem fair that you would get in over someone like him

ya i was rejected from stanford too and my stats are WAYY better than yours. not to sound mean, but its not fair that you would get in over me and kovax14's friend

check his posts, it's true

but whatev :/

just because his post seems genuine on the stanford forum doenst mean anything. I posted on the dartmouth forum that i was accepted as a joke and just made up all of these stats because i was bored. honestly, schools like stanford and princeton do consider affirmative action students, but i can almost guarantee that there are many students significantly more qualified than yourself in the same ethnic bracket. i mean a 1700 is so low that getting into ANY school in the top 50 a challenge

princeton's SAT bracket: Princeton University | Admission Statistics

this clearly shows that SATs ARE important

What is you're parent's income bracket, because mere ethnicity wont hook you up

PS: I believe you, but if you're stats are falsified, you deserve to go to a community college for angering other CCers

"You deserve to go to a community college for angering other CCers"

^This is comic gold^

I don't know, the first thing that caught my eye was "chicano," and the first thought that raced into my mind was "WELCOME ABOARD!"

I love "diversity" :3
