CHANCES Please for a URM!!!

hahaha omg, why is everyone so shocked that someone with a 1700 got into stanford? in all honesty you guys need to chill out sometimes, college is like serious, but not THAT serious. its kinda disturbing how excited (aka nerdy) over getting into "top" college :|

There are more important things than SATs. What matters more is the context in which the scores, and grades were earned. A 1700 in a poor latin american community, for a male(statistically more likely to drop out/be incarcerated) is far, far above average. It would probably put said individual into his respective 99th percentile. If he is doing better than the rest of all other individuals who come from a similar socio-economic background, he deserves the same opportunity as a WASP male who scores in th 99th percentile for WASP males. Taking into consideration differing social presures, academic opportunites, and comparative scores, a 1700 might be equal to, or in some ways surpass a 2300. Everything is relative. Admissions officers realise this, and those applying to very competetive schools would be better served to realise this.

wow you guys. congratulations to the OP though. good job!
