Why are you even asking? Apply to HYPS.

psshhh. UVa for the better experience ;P

Those might have been HYP numbers 8 years ago, but these days, they give a slim shot at best. I'd recommend applying to mostly top 25 schools, though. You'll have a good shot at most, including UVA.

people are so critical round here... and what's up with the whole "look at me! think i can get in!?" threads

its not that they give a slim shot at HYPS, its that nothing gives a good shot there anymore. Short of being URM with those stats. Otherwise, the selection has become so arbitrary, stats like those will get you consideration, from there its a tossup.

You have a good shot at UVa.

yea HYPS i think is a reach for anyone of course, im not applying to any of them, not the environment i'd want.
UVa is a great school for business, but very competitive for OOS students so hope it all works out!

Wazhoom, we don't mean to be overly tough, but there is a baby boomlet coupled with a significant increase in the number of students attending college. Most folks believe that if they are going to pay 40k they might as well purchase name brand recognition. As a result the ivys and most selective schools are deluged with apps.

It is not a matter of being critical, its a matter of being realistic and not giving applicants false hope. Personally I don't revel in dissing ppls chances. The vast majority are superb candidates.

sure, i'm just not sure why people would come here to ask others about their chances. maybe i'm already old school.

i understand college confidential is a great tool in terms of discussing anything and everything about college life, individual universities, etc. Great to hear from actual students of a school, other high schoolers under the same stress, parents with the same questions, etc.

I feel like the whole "chances" thing doesn't really belong here. I guess for me, I wouldn't trust the responses. As far as seeing if I was going to have a chance for a school, I went and looked at the averages across the accepted student body from the previous year(s). There really is no swaying from that, no bias, no uneducated response.

Schools put out their averages, meaning they've accepted people with higher and lower in each area, and as a candidate, you yourself judge in comparison with that and see if you have the extras it takes to put you over the edge.
