Chances (please help!)

Quick post. Tried the other day. No responses!

Asking about 4 schools in particular **Tufts, **University of Texas at Austin, Rice, and NYU.

Caucasian Male/Suburb of Dallas
GPA is around a 3.65 at lowest (About a 97%) don't think we do the whole unweighted/weighted thing in my school.
Rank about 30/550 in a semi-competitive school. At lowest.
AP Classes: Took AP WH (A) ... 3 on test. Hopeful for Senior Year: AP Spanish 4, AP Lang/Lit, AP Government, AP US History, and more
Hoping for a 27+ on ACT.
Not taking SAT.
SAT II's will be decent.
EC's VERY GOOD.
-Scholarship Abroad:
Rotary Youth Exchange Ambassador Scholarship to Chile
(Junior year left in August of 05 and returned June of 06...a month ago)
Lived in Agricultural town in Chile
Taught 3rd grade students English in Chile
Near Bilingual in Spanish (speak/understand/read eloquently for only a year in Chile)
Swim Team 9th 10th 12th (lettered Soph. year in 500 yard free)
Student position...Voted class Reporter 9th grade/12th grade seat on Student Council Board
Other various things...

*Not EXACTLY sure of my stats. I am just guessing based on what they were soph. year in High School before I left to Chile. I gave up ranking my GPA/cramming into as many AP's possible/going to State in swimming for a year abroad to Chile.

Most importantly, I would like to know about Tufts which has a focus on "worldly" students. Would they like a student with stats like mine, or do they easily go for kids with 4.0's?

Evaluate my reach and safety schools...please!!! I appreciate it.

top 10% is automatic acceptance to UT.
So that's a safety for you.

Ah, I was hoping that no one knew that. I am just hoping that during my year abroad that I wasn't bumped out.

I don't know anything about UT, but your projected standardized test scores look low for the other three schools. Aim to get them higher.

yeah i agree... aim for at least a 29 act

lol UT austin

yeah 10% rule.

i'd love a 29. i just have to study the geometry part independently since i am taking that course senior year. in chile we took just random math courses.

j. ahn- dont like UT Austin?

My main question is...
Which schools want the spontaneous risk taker... ?
And which wants the 4.0/every ap possible... ?

dont like UT austin

yes

i think its great.
my brother is going there and is loving it.
i do not like the top 10% rule.

well i dont like it becuase im a tams student

and they dont use the 10% rule with us.
because TAMS doesnt have ranks

but then its weird since most of the people who get in are at least in top 10% if not top 5% of their class when they get into tams

I know a few who went into TAMS. I took another route.
That is cool though. Are you living in Denton now? I am from Frisco which is next door...Denton is horribly boring. How are you surviving!?!

i live in denton texas by the way

Texas is so flat that I can see the UNT tower from my house. And I live 25 miles east of it.

hahahahh yeah i didnt hav eto go very far from home

i used to play frisco in tennis

centennial and regular blue and yellow frisco i think??? idk man its been a while

who do you know that went to tams??

oh man thats not UNT hahahah thats TWU lolll

No idea. I just remember getting to the UNT campus and wanting to get off right away.

I'm from the regular one. Where did you go before?

denton high school

If the top 10% rule does apply, then you can certainly take some risks. The other schools on your list have low admissions rates - and there is a possibility that your anticipated ACT could cause you some problems. I think that you might want to add a school or two to your list. Would they have to be uni's or would a LAC or two be ok?

I have no idea how I am going to do on my ACT. For all I know I could have a 20 or a 32. I am going to study for it. The composite rate for Tufts is a 30. I figure with a 27 I will be a little under.

LAC...what is that?
I think my ec's exceed the limit. I only believe UT Austin and Tufts are worth my time. Luckily, I should be admitted into UT Austin automatically.
I will work hard for a 27-30 on the ACT, which is completely possible. I just am going to have to break a neck.

LAC = Liberal Arts College - such as Bowdoin, Vasser, Colby, Macalester. What is it about Tufts that appeals to you so much?

I want to study something in the Social Sciences/Political Science field. I am bilingual (and a caucasian) and I really would like to be in a college classified as "worldly"...
Also the fact that 40% of the student body does a term abroad appeals to me a lot. I already did a year abroad and want to do it again.
