Well, really want to get into Indiana University - Bloomington
My GPA is a 2.97, But thats because I really messed up my Freshman year of High School, I failed a world language class. My GPA for that year was a 2.2, My Sophomore year I did better and Finished with a 3.1 GPA. My junior year I finished with a 3.7 GPA but it all accumulated to a 2.97. Do you think I can get it. I got a 1850 on my SATS Do they like to see good Test scores and progression in grades? Do colleges really pay attention to freshman year? Also, Indiana does not require any foreign languages for application. Will they really pay attention to what I did back then?
I also was a People to People Student Ambassador.
I have over 100 Hours of volunteer work at a local hospital.
I have been an Active participant in my towns little league baseball
and Im a 2 Year varsity baseball player
I also had an internship with a local minor league baseball team

Do you think I can get in? I am also Hispanic and from out of state.

It will definitely help you having an increasing trend in grades and it is obvious you are a smart kid with your SAT scores. If you had any year to mess up, the best is definitely freshman year. I say you have a good shot, good luck!

Although your cumulative GPA is not so good, don't be discouraged. Colleges like to see students who try their best to raise up their GPA. You are one of them. Also, your ECs look good. I think you have decent chances to other colleges if your essays are good. Maybe,
University of Illinois,
University of Washington

Also, it depends on what you want to major in.

I think that the incline in your GPA will definitely help you. I have heard of people with lower GPA's get in, so I wouldn't be discouraged. You have great SATs and your EC's also look good. You should have your counselor right you a recommendation, that will def help. Also, right a personal statement and send that in too. I know they don't require any of that but I'm pretty sure they take it into consideration.

Good work on getting back up there! I think you have a good shot; you have that passion for learning and redemption, and a flair of ambition. IU-B will love to see that. Good luck!

An upward trend in your grades is what colleges want to see, and luckily your grades dropped in your freshman year, which colleges tend to not care about as much.

Thanks for chancing me!
Ummm...I think that you have a pretty good shot w/ your SATs, ec's, and community service. The foreign language thing shouldn't count for too much and at least your curriculum shows that you challenged yourself and you may have had a rough time in a few of your courses.

A lot of posters have said really good things.

The rising trend is definitely good. From 2.2 to 3.7 is very impressive.

A lot of colleges don't pay much attention to freshman year (in fact, when calculating GPA, some don't even count freshman year at all).

If IU-B doesn't require foreign languages for admissions, then I doubt your failing grade in a language will matter as much as if the failing grade were in a required course. They probably won't disregard it completely, but considering it was in your freshman year AND it's not a class that's required for admission, it should be ok.

Your SAT score is strong, and your ECs look good too.

Also, being Hispanic, you are a URM, which will definitely help.

You have a good shot at getting in, I think.

(NKBaseballbum18- I'm also from central NJ. Well, central/north.)
