Hi.
So I go to a really good private school in nyc which is recognized as being like extremely hard and such. Like this year, out of a class of 102, we sent like 21 kids to HYPS. People in the middle(B - B+) of that class got sent to like Duke(rarely), Hopkins, Emory etc. And everybody got into college.
And I just got back my jr year grades, and my gpa(we dont actually have GPAs but i calculated it) was a 3.57. It had been a little bit lower freshman and sophomore years(like a B/B+).

My sats were 2210 - 750 CR, 720 W, 740 M.
Sat IIs - 710Math I, 750 US history.

The highlights of my extras are
1.) 3 sport varsity athlete
Baseball, varsity since freshman year.
Cross Country - 1 year varsity.
Indoor track - 2 years varsity.
2.) Newspaper sectional editor.
3.) Paid internship with a neurologist.
4.) Alumni Affairs club co-president (legit club that makes money for the school)
and a good amount of community service and such.

Also, I will have good recs.

Finally, my dad did a one year law tax course at NYC after law school, so I'm sorta a legacy but not really sure.

So what kind of chance do I have?

Also, leave a link and i will chance back!

You’re not a legacy, although you certainly seem like you can get into NYU. Are you applying RD or ED?

no, you aren’t a legacy.

I am applying RD, thanks for the legacy information.

Your scores are great, and your GPA is obviously good if you go to a NYC private school. Athletic skills are always a big bonus, and your ECs are pretty good overall. Seems like you’ve got a really good chance! Really, with your stats, I can’t see why you wouldn’t get in.

while athletic skills are a plus, i’m sure you know they won’t take you that far with NYU.

what school are you applying to?

I’m not sure at all which school I’m applying to. My interests are American History, English and Psychology, and i don’t really know what school/schools those translate into. Also, i do not plan on playing any college sports.

if you really LOVE writing and want to explore all three of those things, you can apply to Gallatin School of Individualized Study. it’s a lot of writing classes, but you would be able to combine all three of those things into one cohesive major.

Gallatin’s application focuses on the essay A LOT, so if you’re a very good essay writer or have a good proofreader, it might be to your benefit to apply to Gallatin.
