Chances please? I will reply, I promise

Chances as a somewhat belated Christmas Present?

Awards:
Highest Honor roll award (from my school): all throughout high school

Work Experience:
Internship at Qiagen: 10th grade
Internship at NCI: 11th grade

Used that same research and wrote a report which was entered in the Intel STS

IB extended essay on ethics of human embryonic stem cell research

Classes:
all honor classes except the electives, which don't have any levels
-IB English HL: A
-IB Math HL: B***
-IB Chem HL: A
-IB French SL: A
-AP Physics B: A
-IB Comp Sci SL: B

Senior Year (doing pretty well so far):
-IB English HL
-IB Math HL
-IB Chem HL
-IB History of Americas
-IB Theory of Knowledge
-AP Physics C***
-Student Service Learning
-Concert Band

Community Service:
biggest ones are: SAT Math teacher and SAT CR & W Teacher's Assistant

many other small ones:
-Science Fair judge
-Carnival set up
-Chinese School service

*Due to my school's weird scheduling system, I could not fit an AP Bio class in my schedule and IB Bio isn't enough for SAT II. So I studied the whole curriculum by myself (yes this is true), and my teacher told me a 680 is very respectable especially since I studied independently. I will also be taking the AP Bio test in May 2010, studying on my own again.

**The National English Honor Society was not available in my school until my senior year

***IB Math HL is, according to my teacher, the hardest math class offered in the county and also possibly THE hardest overall class in the county. Same goes for AP physics C, but it's probably not as hard as IB Math HL.

Schools:
-UPenn
-Wash. U. in St. Louis
-UChicago
-Duke
-Johns Hopkins
-UVA
-UNC Chapel Hill
-Michigan
-Cornell
-Emory
-Northwestern
-U. of Wash.
-UMD, college park

Maths HL is insanely difficult as well as Physics HL. I was going to take the harder Maths, but the only teacher qualified retired, hence stuck with SL. IB Bio is sufficient for the SAT II if you do HL… some of my friends took it and got 700+, but 680 self study is commendable.

You have very strong Objective stats and diverse ECs that show commitment.
I will chance you on the schools that I know.

-UPenn- Reach: they have a very strong BioMed department, its difficult.
-UChicago- Low Reach: no engineering, mind you
-Duke- High Match
-Johns Hopkins- High Match
-Michigan- Match
-Cornell- Low Reach
-Northwestern- Match

Good Luck! You have a great chance where you applying.

thanks everyone. And yes, Math HL is HARD. The class itself is torture, but our teacher says we’ll thank her once the exam rolls by and in college. I only hope she’s right.

Physics HL is probably the hardest IB exam in our school, but I don’t take it because our Physics teacher sucks. His class is TOO easy, and everyone ends up failing the exams. Last year, he even PREDICTED that everyone was going to get 1s and 2s.

i can only chance you for the schools I know…

idk about IB Bio in other schools but all of our IB classes are pretty bad here, primarily because this program came to our school like 5 years ago and all of our teachers are still kinda getting used to teaching it.

Good Luck!:)

great list of schools. another very good pre-med school is Holy Cross-easier to get into than Duke, Hopkins.

true but at this point I’m not 100% sure I want to go to med school, so I need schools that are not strong a only one particular field of study. But I know I’m going to do engineering as my undergrad degree.
