Chances Please ... I would really appreciate some advice

What are my chances into UVA, Villanova, Boston College or UNC - Chapel Hill.

Basic Info:
White Male from small town outside of Pittsburgh
Public School. Current Junior.
Rankings:
I'm currently 3/190 but will probably graduate 2nd.
I have 4.1 but my school doesn't offer many AP Classes and Honors classes aren't waited much. I still take the hardest classes my school has to offer and I get all A's with the exception of English which is either a low A or very high B. My GPA will probably go up to a 4.2 senior year.

Classes:
Senior year I will be in:
AP Calc II ... My school actually had to create this class for me and 2 other students.
AP English
Physics II
French III
AP Chem
Psych/Econ
*I may have to drop a science because of scheduling issues

SATs:
My big downfall. I have only taken them once and got 600's across the board with a 10 on the essay. I know I can do better than this and will be taking them at least 2 more times along with the Lit and Math II Subject Tests. I'm aiming for a 1900-2000 min. I also just retook the SAT today and confident that I got around a 700 on the math (would be higher if it wasn't for some very stupid mistakes). I'm confident that I can get 700+ Math, 650+ Reading and Writing if not this time but next.

Others:
I'm taking Calc I for college credits from University of Pitt and will do the same next year with Calc II. I also applied to the Pennsylvania Governor's School for Global Entrepreneurship this summer and am hoping I get accepted. If I don't I'm going to take a class at Pitt.

I'm involved in French Club, TFIM (student career exploration program and helped organize a career fair for my school -- first one we ever had), Guitar Club (Vice-Pres), school academic competition team, golf team, Boy Scouts, History Club, Junior Engineering Technical Society and I created a stock-market competition to be held at our school for about 15 high schools in the area. Senior year I will be in the NHS. I have also accumulated around 85 service hours.

I'm very confident in my essays and teacher recs. I also don't know if this helps but my school won't have any applicants to any of the schools I'm applying.

P.S. Would would look better on an application: Governor's School or a college class in the summer?

bump........

governor's school looks better and more importantly it's much more fun and fulfilling

You have the highest chance at Nova, and then BC. UVA and UNC are state schools, and your chances are a lot lower because they need to accept their quotas of Virginians and North Carolinians respectively before they take out of staters like you. Given a high amount of PA guys at UVA, it will be harder unfortunately.

This is assuming you get a 2000 ish on your SAT.

So do I have any kind of chance at UVA/UNC or would they be pretty far reaches?

You do, but they are reaches. I am from Virginia myself and went to William and Mary, about a 100 miles east of C'Ville and UVA. Both UVA and W&M are required by state law to make sure that 65% or more of accepted students are from Virginia. Your highest point in your profile are your grades. Most UVA students are in the top 10% of their class, and the same goes for you. Don't worry about "weighted" GPA's, your class schedule (based on what your school can give) and your class rank will mean more. However, your SAT is lagging behind a bit, and out of state students at UVA on average score higher than the average Virginian would. That's why I would think you need a real high SAT.

Also from what I know, over half of the applicants to UVA and W&M are also out of state, and this is what makes the competition so tough. UNC will also be similar. Add on the fact that you are from PA, you need to know that a lot of other Pennsylvanians will also try to apply to UVA and UNC too. At least for UVA, PA is well represented.

In short, improve your SAT and maintain your grades, and then you'll have a great chance at UVA and UNC. Otherwise, it will be a rather far reach, almost like an Ivy League school, only because you don't live in VA or NC. You can see my "what are chances profile" and get a rough look at how I did (albeit 4 years ago) in the college admissions process. My SAT was higher than yours, but my grades were lower.

Thanks for the help. I was actually looking at William and Mary and forgot to add that to the list.

Oh and my unweighted GPA is roughly 3.8/3.9

Anyone else have some advice/criticism/comments?

So how great are my chances for Villanova?
