Alright so Fordham is my number one choice school, though i dont know how im exactly suppose to show that anywhere...but anyways..here are my stats.

Bangladesh Male, Residing in NYC
Public school, not competitive or anything though.

GPA: 94.5 (i believe its weighted, and thats the way my school does it)
Rank: 11/630 (or so) right now, Valedictorian has a 99.2 i think but semester grades didnt come out yet, by mid year report i should be near 96.

SAT:
Math-650
CR-490
W-570, 10essay

Math IIC -680
Physics - 550

Retaking SAT I in December, hopefully ill get my CR score up and my Math also, my aim is about a 1900 or a 1250/1300 out of 1600.

In a Pre-Med Program at my school, so i have taken All honors and AP classes , the most rigorous course load.

Honors - 10th grade Math, Anatomy, Chemistry, Microbiology, English

AP's (11th grade and this year)
AP CAL, AP BIO, AP English, AP Comp, AP USH all thats offered in my school with the exception of Spanish.

College now Physics was taken in the 11th grade from a community college.
(got an A, but didn't finish curriculum, which is somewhat of an explanation to my low SAT II score.)

REC's - Excellent 1 from Leadership teacher, and the other from the physics teacher who is the assistant principal of my school.

Essay - Excellent as well (or so i hope), Someone from this forum who is currently a Fordham U student, said it was great and it is one of the better essays adcoms will read.

EC's (theres a lot so good chance i probably missed something)

+Student Government - Delegate (theres 8 ppl, we ended vpres and all that this year)
+Student Advisory Council at the District Attorneys Office
+Arista Honors Society
+JV bowling (9th grade only)
+Pre Med Club / Committee (11th &12th / 11th)
+Muslim Club
+Physics and Math Tutoring Help
*Ive also done clerical work for the science department in my school if that counts. And other departments as well.

Lastly Leadership class (most of my community service)--
+Lupus Walk + Fundraising
+March of Dimes + fundraising
+Aids awareness + fundraising
+Baby buggy - collecting baby bottles for infants in need
+Blood drive - helped staff
+Pennies for patients
+Save Darfur - Fundraising
- there are others such as the ones listed above that are just not coming to mind at the moment.

Our latest project with Student Government and the Leadership class was to help this school MS 301, located in the 18th congressional. It was to setup a canned food drive and we decided we would collect and bring it to the school. the 18th congressional is one of the poorest counties in the nation, and the principal of that school came to tell us a lot of info. So we are helping them at the moment.

Work Experiance:
Past summer until Present, have been doing a "Case Study Initiative" program with a doctor that graduated from my highschool. My job is basically to upload data and information to a database so med students can use it for help and assitance.

So CC, what are my chances? Going for Pre-Med, Applying to LC, but i did say i would consider admission to Rose Hill (on the supplement)

Is the "Arista Honors Society" only in New York City, or is it more or less common in other areas. Or is it just available in your particular school? Did Richard Feynman attend your high school?

Richard Feynman, a really, really famous physicist, talked about the Arista society and how he hated it when he finally got in during high school because the only thing the members apparently did was meet together to discuss who else was honorable to be in the society. Of course this as like 60 to 70 years ago, when he was in high school.

Um no i think it may be a nation wide thing? or maybe a NYC thing? i have no idea...i know other kids in different schools (friends) also have it at their school, its basically an honor roll.

(National Honor Society - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) <-- maybe thats more info, u still havent chanced me though =/

Back in my day (over 25 yrs ago) at a NYC high school, the National Honor Society was for those in 12th grade. It was divided into two tiers: NHS (85-89.9 unweighted avg), and Arista-NHS (90% or higher as an unweighted GPA). In my senior class, less than 5% qualified for Arista-NHS.

As far as your chances at Fordham, who knows, to be honest. When there are over 20K applicants, it becomes somewhat random to guess who does and does not get in. It seems like you'll add diversity to the studentbody, which is always a plus. Your SAT CR is definitely on the low side, but you may have other things in your SATII or AP tests that can balance that out or your essay may be superb.

Try not to worry what your application looks like to a bunch of strangers on the web - just submit the best application that you can. With only a month or so left for the application deadline, you can't significantly change your "stats" between now and then. Make sure your essay gives a true sense of "who you are" and the individual you are hoping to become.

Good luck,

You have a lot of ECs, despite the poor test scores, and if your essay is stellar, I'd say you have a 70% shot. Perhaps your rich background helps too.

^ Thanks guys, im still working hard for Saturdays SAT, hopefully i can get in the mid range for CR

Because of the SATs, I think it makes your application very hard to determine, from my standpoint, as to whether or not you'll get in. Just wait and see. Hopefully you have applied to other schools as well.

yeahh i see, i was kinda hoping my rank and like EC's will pull through for me, also my essay.

Just about everyone these days feels that their essay(s) is extraordinary, so the competition even in that part of the application is now getting tougher, so you really should have your essay(s) read by as many experienced persons as possible, such as by college students, english teachers (even the ones you didn't have), parents with children who went through the same process, etc.

I myself thought my common app essay was exceptional, but then I had it read by four extremely experienced persons (including a Caltech student, Dartmouth student, Brown parent, and princeton grad), and they all had very similar, very negative remarks about my essay; their sameness in attitude towards the essay was clear enough to make me really dissect the essay I previously thought perfect completely apart, and now I feel I have an edge after doing so.

^ well i just showed it to my ap lit teacher, who said it was excellent but a few thing si needed to change which i did, showed it to the fordham student, showed it a notredame alumni, they all pretty much said good things, the mistakes i had were fixed. I dont think at this point even if it was completely "messed up" i would be able to fix it. But i hope its ok though still in the process of showing other teachers.

Yes...that 490 on Critical Reading is not good. Fordham is an old fashioned school that requires a lot of reading and writing of papers. Hopefully that CR score is an anomaly and you can explain it or improve it substantially. I dont know what they will do with that. Its always a good idea to have several match and safety schools as well and do as good a job on their applications as you did on Fordham's.

I wish you luck. And if you get in and accept, then come prepared to do LOTS OF WORK.

^yes im trying my best to improve CR hopefully ill manage at least a 550 get my math higher as well. I can only hope for the best. Thanks

I think that 490 in reading may be an issue. Can you still take the ACT?

^ its going to be too late, 490 is killing me i just took the december SAT and it was so hard if anything i probably went down 100 points (well hopefully not 100) but i know for a fact i went up this time in the math. atleast 40-60 points
