Hello, it's the summer and I'm already starting to write application essays and getting a bit nervous. Wanna help calm my nerves and give me a chance? :)

Cali/Male/Asian

1st generation to go to college in USA
born outside USA
One of the most competitive schools in Cali
Top 10%

SAT II: MathIIc 800, Phys 750
APs: Calc BC (5), Calc AB Subscore (5), Eng Lang. (3), Phys Mech (3), Phys E&M (3), World History (3)

ECs: Piano - 7yrs, Marching Band - 4yrs (Instrument for 6yrs), Bio-related Research Internship - current summer, Siemens - (pending), Math Club - 4yrs, Riddle Club - 2yrs (President)

I pretty much got in with similar stats, so don't trip. Even if you didn't get in, there will be a lot of people who get into UCSD, even UCLA and Cal with worse stats. You'd be surprised.

Hey man I think you are set, you have a pretty good chance, especially by your test scores. You sure beat me!!!.....Um i have a low GPA and very Low test scores and I got into UCSD and all the other universities I applied, except UCLA! Is a ****ing hard ass school to get into, is kinda weird how they decided who gets admission. My friend had a 4.11 and valitocrian of the HS and got reject from UCLA as for my friend with a 4.00 she got in as for my other friend 3.8, lol....its weird. N i got into UCSD with a low GPA 3.3m and horrible scores...I think it also depends alot on your essays....make them real and be your self....thats what I did. I had faith in God that I was gonna get in UCSD and I did, keep up the good work! Goodluck

at my school (also in cali), it seems like a 2100 and an UW gpa of >3.7 is pretty much a lock for most of the UCs, barring the seemingly odd rejections from ucla and ucb

I don't think you guys saw what his major is. He's trying to get into UCSD as a bioE major. Last time i checked bioE is an impacted major at UCSD.

hydralisks:
BioE at UCSD is world-renowned, ranked #2 behind JHU. I don't know the average stats but I do know that it is VERY difficult to get in as a bioE major. Try using the search engine for the bioE admits this year. If my memory serves me right, their stats were VERY high. Good luck.

I never said he can't get in. I said it's very difficult to get in as a "bioE" major. Doesn't necessarily mean he won't get in, just maybe not as a bioE major after the "whole process." He should use the search engine to see what the competition is like... And yes, bioE majors stats are VERY HIGH or it wouldn't be an impacted major.

cr_book, could you explain the "process" for getting into my major or choice? i've never heard of this thus far

chemical_relapse, i google'd but couldn't find any specific stats for bioE, maybe SD doesn't release them? would you suggest i still apply to bioE or should I go "undecided engineering" or just "regular undecided"?

It depends, how much do you want to do BioE? If you go in as undecided, it's extremely difficult to switch into an impacted major (if possible at all) once you're there. If it's just UCSD you want to get into, I would suggest you declare an unimpacted major or just go in as undeclared. If bioE is where your heart lies, then by all means go for it. I'm not too sure about the "process" as well. My understanding was that if you declare an impacted major and they don't see you fit, they reject you altogether. I guess that's not the case. cr can help you out with the details.

If you really do want to do BioE, hydralisks, apply to BioE. It is impossible to get into the major otherwise, unless you want to do premed or bioinformatics which don't really cut it if you want to be an engineer.

Aren't all of UC gpa's weighted though? With their 8 semesters cap

Beware0fNerd, would I still be a match if I applied for bioE? I actually just want bioE for a background and plan on doing business at Grad school
