Cooper Union
Columbia University
MIT

Thank you very much!

No chance at MIT.
Columbia and Carnegie Mellon are both pretty big reaches.

The weak part of your resume is your lack of AP/IB courses. You only have a .15 difference between your unweighted and weighted GPA.
A fair amount of kids (Such as myself) will have more than 3 times as many AP/IB courses.

Look also into RIT, WPI, RPI, Georgia Tech and Case Western.

Alright, thanks for the replies. Would improving my SAT score increase my chances? Thanks

I don’t know if this may make a difference but I would like to add that I want to major in Chemical Engineering.

for CopperUnion and MIT you really need close, if not a 800 on the math section of the SAT… also on the subject test so make sure you study hard for it. everything is a match except for the last 3 you listed obviously but still a chance, go for it

Thanks for the reply NYorker. Just so you know, I’m taking the SAT again in May, and possibly again in October if necessary. Would 750 Math be acceptable for Cooper Union/MIT? Thanks again

yeah definately, just try and try to get it up as high as possible; focus primarily on math… if i were you i would try to run for an office position in some of those clubs/extra curriculars you are in, or get involved in them more heavily (you might be very involved with them now, but at the moment, they just look like a random list); i would pick your favorite and try to excel in it. good luck though! start your essays in the summer and such, make them good. one last thing, for CU and MIT be sure to have very high math grades on your transcript, as high as possible… they are going to look heavily at that… also science grades.

Thanks for the advice. I’m going to become treasurer of the Junior Fire Department before I complete my applications so I will have at least 1 position. My Math grades are A/B+ but all my science grades are A+/A, so I guess I’m ok.

Just a little bit of a bump. In the words of Apu, Thank You, Come Again!

Bump, thanks for the chancing guys.

I think you really need to work on your SATs if you wish to get into some of the top unis you have stated. I think you should really work on your CMU app because that is one which you have a good chance of getting into and it a top university. However, if you do write some amazing essays, your chances always increase :)

Thanks JIS1
I’ve eliminated MIT from my list.
So,
Columbia, Cooper = Reach
CMU = Match
Stony, City and Manhattan = Safety
I’ll definitely try to write some amazing essays.
