I am working at a law firm for a paid internship this summer for a few weeks. Besides that, no work experience.

General Notes

I love politics. Most of my time is spent reading news/books. Because of this, I can expect excellent rec letters from government and history teachers. I want to major in Poli Sci.

Also, I am fairly liberal, Kansas is not. I plan on doing some pretty cool event type things early this fall for the national and state general elections. This will hopefully stir up some media attention. But I can't really plan that.

I feel like my interview will be very good. Thanks to debate (yay pretty speaking!), and my passion for what I want to study.

you hsave a shot.

BYT Kathleen Sebiuius is who I would pick for VP

sry i meant you have a great shot

really? I would go with Wess Clark or Joe Biden.

I think that the easiest way to deflate McCain going into November would be to get someone who has great foreign policy/military experience. McCain runs on the fact that he was a military man. He was only a fighter pilot. Wess Clark was the Supreme Allied Commander of Nato in Europe. Those are real military credentials. And Clark actually had administrative experience through that job. McCain was only a pilot, and a bad one at that.

I like the idea of Sebelius because she is a beltway outsider, but she has not built up any experience in anyway that Obama hasn't. That said, I am very proud to have her as my governor.

Oh, and can I consider Tufts a safety school?

No, I don't think anyone can consider Tufts a safety school. However, if you genuinely want to attend (even if it's not your first choice) and manage to convey your enthusiasm in your application, your chances at getting in are very good.

The problem with Biden is that Obama is running as a Washington Outsider and, Biden has been is Washington for 30 years. Swift Boat would eat that alive!!

Clark's comments about Mccain being shot down not qualifing him to be president were not a smart comment for someone to say who is interested in being VP.

This first rule in picking a "VP is "do no harm" Clark and Biden both could be attacked.

My pick was Webb, but he said he wouldn't run.

Also Sebelius' father was the govenor of Ohio. Also, any Democrat who is in a second term as govenor in KANSAS has to be good right?

The only qualms about Sebelius is that she isn't the best orator, but with Obama running oyu don't need someone who is a great speaker.

Just my 2 sense.

Are you kidding me...Have you heard of Tufts Syndrome? haha
You might be over qualified. You are brilliant. All those AP classes and EC. WOW.

Good stats-similar to my daughter. We don't buy into Tufts "syndrome" so I beg to differ from the prior post. She was accepted at Tufts, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Emory, Northwestern, U Mich, etc, etc. Absolute best fit is Tufts. Nothing is guaranteed when you're looking at a top university. If you aren't accepted, don't make excuses and blame a "syndrome". It's all a crapshoot when you're at the top of the student pyramid and competition is against an applicant pool that looks just like you.

It makes sense that a second tier school would not want to waste their spots on someone for sure going somewhere else.

If you consider it to be a second tier school and would go somewhere else "for sure", then don't bother applying. Unless someone applies ED, no college knows where that applicant will "for sure" go - if someone applies to a school, the implication is that they would want to go there, whether or not it's their top choice.

I think it's pretty clear looking at their admissions policies that "Tufts syndrome" no longer exists, at least at Tufts. It would be difficult to be much more qualified than many of the people I know who are also going.

Also, as a word of advice, one of the most important things to do when applying to college is to be honest with yourself. If you convince yourself of things that may not be true, you're only setting yourself up for a letdown. A friend of mine, who is very smart - good grades, SATs, etc - and involved in a lot of stuff in and out of school, applied to a bunch of Ivies and other top schools saying that Cornell was his safety school. Next year he'll be going to Northwestern, which is a great school and I'm sure will be a great place for him, but, after what he spent months telling himself and others, was a bit of a letdown for him.

I wasn't considering myself in that hypothetical. Sorry if I offended.

I understand what you are saying. But on the flip side, a component of admission is your dedication to the school. Building up high expectations for yourself I think might carry through during the interview.

Sorry to have brought up Tufts syndrome....I just think that you are a very strong applicant for almost any school. And I agree that college admittance to any school is not guaranteed.
