Chances please...you know u wanna

Hey! I'm a rising junior from Texas...For my junior year I will be going to TAMS (Texas Academy of Math and Science), which is a residential program where students live on the campus of the University of North Texas, and take college classes. Do u guys have some suggestions...any advice.. please help me instead of saying stuff like oooo it's too early... i dun care... i pretty much had fun in my freshman year pretty much partying wit friends and have enjoyed myself in general... now i wanna actually work. Oh and should I do NHS...or should I just like not waste my time doing NHS cause I am thinking about joining FBLA in my junior year cause a lot of ppl from my school go to state in FBLA and it seems fun

THANKS FOR READING THIS

Also, I wanna major in electrical engineering (ignore my username)

Congrats on your decision to go to TAMS...

If I was you, I would not be even thinking about joining activities that look good on your resume' right now. You don't know how hard it's going to be there, so I would really be selective about which activities you join, especially first semester. First semester I would make school absolutely your #1 priority. In fact, there's nothing wrong with just doing school that 1st semester. Then once you have adjusted academically you can start to add activities. How about setting up your research mentorship in physics to start your 2nd semester there?

I went to a math & science academy too, and my first semester all I did was study (plus occasional practices of the math and science team, but that didn't really get into full gear until the spring anyway.)

Try to do things with the philosophy of preparing you to do well at MIT rather than just get in.

Thank you for the advice... am I on the right track? I have actually already started doing research but not at UNT...at another nearby college.

collegealum...wat college are u at rite now (are u at MIT? i would think tat u are at MIT but a lot of ppl that go on the MIT forum are actually still in high school, so just making sure)? Or are u still in high school?

looks good so far...I am a MIT alum.

btw, here are the resume's of a couple of TAMS alumni now at MIT...there will be some very smart people at TAMS....

http://web.mit.edu/chemistry/Ting_Lab/cv.html

Thank u soo much...more opinions any1...advice?

Why not pick up a Halliday & Resnick physics book and start doing some mechanics problems? Get a little headstart on the semester.

If you're going to be an electrical engineer, you can't do enough of these problems.

Thanks, but what would be the prerequisites to solve those problems. Since I haven't really taken calculus yet.

If I may give you some advice (I went to a school much like TAMS for two years (residential), and am heading off to MIT): ****ing own at science and math. Have fun, but start really figuring out how to totally own in terms of science and math stuff. Try to rock in the classroom, take hard classes. Do only the clubs that you really feel advance your abilities. Take risks and get serious about whatever you do. I can not express how important it is that you blaze your own trail for the next two years and stand apart, however you figure out how to do that.

bump....10 chr
