oh and in case u didn't see my post on the MIT1337 thread...

I am the same person as MIT1337.. I wanted to make a new ID since this ID says medicalmania, and now I am thinking about going into engineering. However, apparently ppl can only have 1 ID according to the terms and conditions of college confidential, so I had to delete the MIT1337 ID. Just letting everyone know

bump... please chance me

You don't have any real standardized test scores. The PSAT, while often an indicator of how one will do on the SAT, is still arbitrary.

I will be taking the SAT in my december of my junior year

According to practice tests my SAT score should be around 2250ish

I think you'll do better than 2250ish based on your amazing PSAT performance. I would predict you have a great shot at the vaunted 2400. But I digress. Your grades are great so far, however you must understand that TAMS is no ordinary high school and it will be a risk to take a chance of your grades plummeting. You will be accepted to UT Austin EE obviously. Rice is a solid match for you with the other schools as reaches, but they are for everybody. I would consider picking up 2 additional ECs junior year, preferably one math/sci related and another not. You may want to compete on your academic team, tutor, etc. I say you have a really good chance if you buff up your ECs. Make sure to secure recs from teachers who know you well and hone your writing skills for the essays. Please chance me at:

well unfortuanately since I have decided to go to TAMS...apparently top 10% rule doesn't apply cause there isn't ranking at TAMS.

Definitely get in UT~

MIT, CalTech -reaches. If u can get a perfect score on the SAT, u may get more chances on those schools (according to your PSAT, you can have a great shot on the SAT).

RICE - match
Stanford- slight reach (i guess ^_^)

bump... more opinions...chances....advice???

stanford: Reach
MIT: Reach
Caltech: Reach
Rice: Match
UT: in

though these are quite tentative as you are still a rising junior.

If you do great on the SAT and keep your grades really high, you're pretty much guaranteed Caltech. MIT and stanford are of course EC reaches.

Are Stanford and MIT attainable reaches as in everything would depend on essays, recs, and luck like it does for most people, or are my chacnes slightly better/worse?

bump (10 char)

bump...please CHANCE me

wow, great chances everywhere. especially if your psat score is an accurate indicator of your SAT score. Only earning 25k a year will also help tremendously. best of luck :)

thank you....any more opinons?

stating reach and/or match on the schools listed is superfluous, so i'll just state what I picked up from a quick scoping out of what you have listed. Stellar from an academic perspective, make sure you do better on SAT (not that ur scores are bad, but cuz it's evident that you can do better), i'd say you should focus on ur ecs, and really show what u want to pursue as a major through them, as well as other passions.....you've got time though (unlike others, myself included!! gulp, the dreaded year called "senior year" pause for vomiting has arrived). Anyhow, don't worry for the time being. You have a great shot, but you should work on "selling" yourself better for the time being. I doubt that is all the awards you have. Think and list carefully, u'd be surprised how many things you could have overlooked.

Well, I was on our Mandlebrot Team... i think we were like 3rd in the West or sumthing (can't remember)

so i'm guessing you're going into your junior year?? Your chances look go so far. I'm not sure but the low income might help a little?? In the next year

-Focus on EC's!! Immerse yourself in what you're passionate about. This is how you will really stand out among other applicants at those reach schools (MIT/CIT)

If you really got a 5 on the AIME, then that's very good. Why not study more and go for USAMO? Or, just any type of improvement maybe to perhaps a 6-7 will show that you are very strong in math and boost your chacnes at MIT/CIT/other reaches.

Do well on the SAT, and go for around 2350 because you definitely have the potential. Boost that CR to a 750+ because CR>W for admissions.

Score well on SATII's

Form close relationships with your teahcers so they'll be able to write good recs for you

you're on teh right track. best of luck
