Common Ap Essay: I chose my own topic and talked about the difficulties I've had with my family (divorce, parents in rehab) and how throughout my childhood I found refuge in writing. I continued to talk about how the escape I found in books and ability to express what I was feeling in writing when I couldn't talk to anyone else allowed me to grow despite the chaos of my family. I also talked about how it drove me to found a student run newspaper at my school because I thought there was nothing more important than allowing students to have a voice in high school, about the issues that matter to them, and to give them a voice in a forum that is uncensored to create more trust within my school community. Concluded with talking about the passion I have for writing and the immense influence it has had on my life.

Teacher recommendations: Very good. I chose teachers who I have had multiple times and have close friendships with outside of class. My college counselor is also my cross country coach and I know him very well.

I currently go to a New England boarding school that is nationally recognized. It is ranked as 25th in the country for boarding schools. I'm here on a scholarship for English.

My junior year I was suspended for five days and put on Disciplinary Probation for being caught drinking at a dance. I wrote an essay for the common app explaining the personal difficulties I was going through at the time, the consequences that I faced because of my actions (very grave. i was president of student congress and got that taken away as well as my spot on a study abroad trip), and everything I've learned. My college counselor told me that seeing as the rules at boarding school are much more strict and if I did the same thing at day school I never would have been caught, my suspension probably won't have much weight in my application.

Please! NYU is my dream. The creative writing program is one of the best in the country (if you can't tell I'm just a LITTLE into English) and its in New York. Really could not be a better fit for me.

Thanks!
