My GPA is very very low for Cornell. It's only a 3.3, however, I achieved something that almost 100% of people have not. I got a 2400 on my SAT the second time I took the test. The first time I took the test I got 2340. I also got a 780 on the U.S. history subject test. I have not really cared much for the work I received in high school. I have always taken school as if it were a joke. I understand my GPA is low but I hope there is an outside shot of me getting accepted. I have also played a sport and have been a member of numerous clubs as well as being a state finalist for my newspaper articles. What are my chances? Thank you.

hey…
do you know that that’s actually considered bad…to have a low GPa but an exceptionally high SAT? My counselor told me that indicates you are smart but you haven’t put effort into your school work, which is not something colleges would want.
By the way, Cornell puts much more emphasis on GPA than SAT. If you go to their website, it says while school work is very important, SAT is “considered, although not as much as you think”. And if you look at the result of accepted applicants in the past few years, their SATs aren’t that high (2100-2250 ish) but all of them have really high GPAs. (3.8-4.0 uw)

A perfect SAT is good, but once you cross a certain threshold (probably around 1500), then it doesn’t matter. And your GPA will hurt you a lot. The college will probably see you as an underachiever.

I guess you could write in your essays your philosophy about the schooling system…
