Hi everyone, thanks in advance to anyone who responds to this post. Georgetown is one of my top choices, and I was very disappointed to be deferred from the College early action. I'm in need of a little confidence boost/want some opinion on where I might stand heading into the regular decision pool...thanks!

My school doesn’t report unweighted GPAs (the 4.3 is all I have officially), but if I were to attempt to calculate it myself, it would be around 3.95.
And thanks for your response!

If you get an opportunity, you should have your college counselor make a phone call to your Admin. Rep. to see if they can shed some insight into where your application fell short. We had a few students deferred to RD when I was coming through and our college counselors were great about calling and asking the pertinent questions to improve applications for those that were deferred and/or waitlisted. Once you get that information, you can move forward to improve your RD application + your admin rep will get a personal phone call from your best advocates reaffirming your interest/intent to matriculate if accepted.

You seem like a great candidate. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve heard from a few people that calls to the admissions office can be helpful for improving my RD application in any way I can…I’ll definitely look into it. Hopefully my counselor can get some useful info so I can supplement my app with additional materials!
Thanks again for your help!

It’s almost strange that you didn’t get in - those numbers put you in the top 15% to 20% of last year’s accepted class. It may be that nothing in your application convinced them that you had a particular interest in Georgetown and they figured they’d lose you to an Ivy anyway. So, anything that you can do that shows you’re willing to go the extra mile to get into Georgetown can only help, as it indicates you’re likely to accept an offer.

Well, it’s quite flattering to think they thought they might “lose me to an Ivy!” Thanks for the compliment, and I’m actually only applying to one Ivy and it would probably be tied at the top of my list with Georgetown (if I’m lucky enough to get into both, I’m going to have some serious thinking to do!)
I thought my “Why Georgetown” essay was pretty strong, with detailed references to my campus visit and specific points about why I want to go there (tried not to list!) Though looking back, you always think you could’ve done more…
My interview also went well; my interviewer said I had a lot of enthusiasm for the school and seemed like a good fit.
Like MacHoban suggested, I’m probably going to have my counselor call to hopefully get some details on my deferral, and that will also signal my interest a bit more!
Thanks for the input!!

Hi everybody, in case anybody was curious…I had my counselor call my admissions rep, and they talked for a long time, with my rep telling my counselor that I was a very strong applicant and that she really enjoyed my essay. She also said that she would make sure that my application gets to a different committee this time around. I emailed her to let her know I was going to be sending in an updated resume and to tell her personally how interested in Georgetown I still am, and she responded right away.
Thanks for the suggestion to call, my confidence has definitely been boosted a little!
