I am interested in engineering ( Mech or chemical) and am applying to : Rice, Cornell, CMU, Cal poly , GA tech, UNC ,UT Austin, Tx A&M and a few safeties. I know it's very hard to get into reach schools here but ...chance me anyway. Any school suggestions will be appreciated.

I don’t necessarily agree with those posting here. Your GPA is quite low even considering that you took all possible AP/Honors compared to those at Cornell and Rice.
Reaches:
Cornell
Rice
CMU
Matches:
UT Austin
Cal Poly
GATech
TX A&M.
Don’t mean to ruin any hopes and dreams, I just don’t think that what these people are posting is legit and accurate. But this is my say on it and I am trying my best to compare your GPA and SAT with a scattergram of those accepted/denied/deferred/etc. of those that applied there.

Your chances are always better for ED; I’m not sure if it’s binding, but if it isn’t go for it. I agree with nickolai’s assessment for matches and reaches, especially since you state that your ECs are only decent.

I agree more with Nickolai, I think Rice and Cornell are reaches for you. Definitely do the early decision it will help your chances. Just make sure that you are sure when you do it. Also, if you are out of state and I would put UNC at a high reach. I don’t know so much about the rest of them but Good Luck!

To be honest, I think Cornell and Rice are reaches. SAT for math needs to be higher esp b/c you wanna be an engie. I would try to load up on ec as much as possible. If you can improve your sat 2 scores. but other than that youre resume is pretty good. Maybe consider rose-hulman?
