Notes: Parents separated just before Freshman year. Lived only with father throughout high school. Very rare, limited contact with mother. Little to no family income through most of high school; father lost job. Frequent concerns about having food to eat each day, making rent, and affording basic necessities (including person hygiene products and school items). Live in an area where such financial situations are uncommon.

*Not yet enrolled despite desire to become such

Thank you for any assistance you can provide! I appreciate it greatly.

In addition, if you think that my schools are far off the mark, I would I appreciate it if you could suggest good schools that would better fit me. Thank you very much.

U Rochester is the only one that isn’t a reach… however, the reaches look reachable, especially if you successfully register as a Native American.

U Rochester: Low match/Match

Perhaps UT Dallas should be doable…

These schools are all reaches for everyone, no one is guaranteed acceptance regardless of stats. That being said, with you hooks, if you continue to focus and study hard, you have a greater shot than many. Good luck.
Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1485632-chance-me-ucla-usc-upenn-duke.html</a></p>

Thank you very much for you input. I appreciate it.

I just realized that it might be worth mentioning that I am the founder of a small community organization to put an end of misinformation.

It’s small, but it’s something I am very interested in continuing to grow – I hope that my little organization will cause a lot of good in the years to come.

In regards to standardized test scores, the next several months shall contain several iterations of taking both the SAT and the ACT.

You had me going until the gay alliance/young republican, thing. Your either a ■■■■■ or just very indecisive.

I’m neither a ■■■■■ nor indecisive.

I am merely a moderate Republican; I have mostly conservative values and am a fiscal conservative, but I have witnessed things in my small town which have made me nauseous to the core. I couldn’t just watch and do nothing, so I decided to work against the prejudice and harassment I witnessed. I didn’t want to be part of the problem going on in my school, I wanted to help students who were struggling and help other students see past their insular point of view.

This isn’t born of indecisiveness. I am a Republican, but I am also very concerned about other human beings.

Okay, I take the ■■■■■ thing back. But you really do have to make a choice at least until the Republican platform changes to moderation. BTW that might be sooner than later. GL

I completely understand where that comment came from; it’s a strange combination in most people’s eyes and I often do get the “what do you mean you’re in the Young Republicans Club AND the president of the Gay-Straight Alliance?!” reaction.

I understand that, and I’m hoping the tide of bigotry does turn, though I’ve seen increasing factionalism all around me. Ultimately I have to be the one to do what I think is right and be involved in the changes I believe are necessary.

Thank you. =)

Your GPA is rather weak for most of the schools on the list. Your SAT score is at or slightly above average for these schools. Your EC is also far from outstanding. I would say you are low reach for Rice and reach for the rest.

Wow
okay, 1st thing you need is luck… with such GPA and SAT i Don’t even know what to say…
I strongly recommend you:

 1. Tonns of ECs, why? You could do some of them which you really like, without which you can’t imagine your life.
 2. Mit and Caltech like students who participate in olypiadas, do researches
 3. Remarkable essays
 4. Just be yourself everyone else already taken. Do what you love to do.

Thank you all very much for your input! Again, I very much appreciate it.

My SAT score certainly isn’t yet final – I’ll be taking the SAT and ACT multiple times before the applications are due.

I’ll also be taking SAT IIs in the coming months: Physics, Mathematics.

I’ve chosen to focus on the extracurricular activities that mean the most to me and have the best potential for impact on other people’s lives.

I founded the GSA because I needed to make a difference in my school community, and I truly felt that I could do some good in my school; I strongly hope that my club is making such a positive difference. I joined the Young Republicans Club so I could get involved in issues that concern me and share my thoughts with other young adults. I wrestled because I loved the sport (unfortunately, I was injured), and I loved being part of a team and having that sort of camaraderie. Getting to wrestle Varsity was an added plus. I tutor because I love children and want to help them. I’m in Academic Decathlon and other academic teams because I like to learn and enjoy academic competitions.

I founded an outside organization to combat misinformation because in the past several years, the proliferation of misinformation throughout my community has become increasingly clearer to me. I don’t like being inactive, and thus I’ve chosen to act. Our outreach is through print and online outlets, and this is an organization I hope to continue to grow in the coming years. A lot of our focus is currently centered on mental illness, abuse, pregnancy, substance abuse, and there’s some science outreach as well. It’s not something I see as child’s play; it’s something I hope to use as a tool to help people and families in the years to come, which means that I hope to continue to grow my organization long after high school.

As for the essays, it is definitely one of my strong suits. I have three teachers who have attested to my strong writing skills and natural voice (one teacher tried to get me to join their essay-writing team, which I was forced to turn down due to a conflict with another school team . . . it appears that teachers do sometimes share their students essays with other teachers, which came as a surprise to me). As a plus, I have a friend who was a college professor and tech writer for many years (was, because she retired about a month ago) who has offered to read over my essays and offer advice. The aforementioned three teachers would probably not be adverse to doing the same for me.

If anyone has any ideas on how I could make myself a more competitive applicant, that would be very welcome.

Also, if anyone could chance me for the University of Pennsylvania, that would be lovely. Thank you.

I’m loathe to do this, but my thread has fallen down the list, and I do want more input.

I apologize for the great length of many of my posts. I didn’t quite notice how long-winded they were.
