Decent amount of extracurriculars
Thanks for all of your help.

Your SAT and GPA are above the average for UMD so you likely have a solid chance. Make sure you apply by the priority deadline though if you want to get in. It’s not binding like early decision.

While you have a good GPA, I have to disagree with wsikder about your SAT being above UMD’s average.

UMD only considers the Math/CR sections of the SAT, leaving your SAT at 1290. The middle 50% range for this years admitted freshman class is 1260-1410, with the true average student having ~1330 for the class of 17. Also, it seems that this number goes up every year. What makes admission for you more challenging is you are from NJ, a state where UMD gets a lot of applicants, and consequently admission is tougher for PA/NJ/NY residents than it is for in-state, or even other OOS students.

Having said that, I think when considering your GPA you are a spring admit based on what I have seen from years past. Have you considered taking another SAT in December to try to raise your math score? If you raised your math score by 50 points I would feel a lot better about your chances. UMD cares so much about test scores :/

Definitely apply by November 1! Good luck!
