SOF - IEO: Intl. rank - 44, National Rank - 8.
Published Economics article for city-wide magazine(if you google my name, this appears )

ECs:

Model United Nations-

Model UN Secretary, Student Council
I'm responsible for selecting, familiarizing and training newbs to MUN. I'm also responsible for registering my school MUN team in various events, and also in charge of allotments, payments and general co-ordination. (googled it, school website has published student council members' profile)

Head Delegate, School MUN team:-
Responsible for each and every MUNer from my school during that particular event and also responsible for their performance and overall behavior. (trust me, this is big. rec letters will be influenced by this)

Delegate Experience:-
Been to 9 conferences so far, have 5 Best Delegates (highest), 3 Outstanding Delegates(second), 2 Best Foreign Policy Statements and 3 Best Delegations ( Team awards) so...that's 13 accolades from 9 conferences. ( It's one of the best track records in the local circuit )

Executive Board and Organizing Commitee:
President of the Security Council, my school MUN; Chair of GA, THIMUN affiliate in city;
already confirmed as Prez of SC for next year's 3 MUNs, and quite possibly the SecGen of my school MUN. ( I heard that nobody at the school level from my area had this much experience)

Carnatic Music:

Mridangam- I've been learning Mridangam for the past 7 years and: (it's a percussion instrument, popular here, in south India, and the south Indian population worldwide)

Concerts-
I have played in 4 full-blown concerts, and received a lot of recognition. ( hoping to get a rec letter from Bigshot Carnatic singer about my skills, since I have played for her. )

Awards-
I have participated in numerous Mridangam competitions and won many, although they have varied in size, some were small, others were big. But I'm sure this isn't that big as compared to the concerts.

Mridangam tutoring-
I teach beginners, the basics and the main rhythm of the instrument (doesn't make much sense in English, but it's a big responsibility) don't get paid, but the parents of the kids that learn from me are very impressed with my patience, potential letter here? what do you guys think?

I mostly will be submitted an arts supplement, with a recording of my performance, a couple of letters although I don't want to study music. Do you think that would be a good idea?

Other ECs are pretty generic:
Debate and Speaking in general, been in many, won some stuff

School Hockey team - I play pretty good, but definitely not the team's best player. Nothing uniquely awesome about me. Team however, has won a lot of tournaments.

Theatre - Regularly play roles, part of school production (big role, and the biggest school-level production in all of south India), have written and directed a few plays

I need aid. A lot of aid. The more the better.
Income level : <60000 USD per year.
Hooks - Diversity because of carnatic music? Although I think carnatic music is big in the US.
Most likely major - Economics/Business

Generally looking at Ivies, UChicago and a couple of Liberal Arts colleges.

Can you guys chance me for any Ivies, Chicago, Amherst and Co., or generally any college that gives aid to Internationals?

Thanks!

If you did not need aid, you would be very good.
With your need of aid, you need to prioritize the ivies that are need blind and the LACs. I doubt it if the need-aware ivies would take a look at you. There are a lot of rich international students that have the same qualifications as you.
In the end, money still is a big deciding factor.

I get that. That’s why I’m looking at Dartmouth, Amherst, and couple of other liberal arts colleges. What I’m looking at now, are safety schools- like state universities and lower tier colleges (doesn’t matter if these are need aware) who give a lot of aid to intl.s. Gaah! Can I look at outside scholarships? That would bring up my chances right? :)

Maybe instead of looking at the big name universities and their scholarships, you could look at intra-departmental scholarships. You secure admission and get a scholarship later.
If your intended major is eco, I suggest you look at the Economics department of each university you’re interested in. Your chances are amazing- you’ll definitely get in, but paying might be a bit of a problem what with the rupee deprecating and all that. Btw congrats on your SAT score, it’s amazing!

check Colgate U

Okay! What do you guys generally think about LACs?

Did not see very carefully if you are eligible, but applying to ‘woman’-only colleges would be a good safety.

LAC → Are LAC’s good? Of course. But irrelevant what we think. It must fit for you.

Dude, I’m a dude. :stuck_out_tongue: And yes, I get that. :)

@highlystrung- Fellow south Indian here. Which school? and when did you take up SAT?

Uhhm. I don’t think I can tell you the name of my school  But a VERY popular, HIGHLY reputed school in Chennai. I took up the SAT in June :)
