School: public with 300 kids in my grade
GPA : 3.52 unweighted
3.75 weighted
Class rank: none
activites: math, knowledge bowl, jv football, summer baseball team, winter hockey league, chess team, science olympiad, and tutoring.
ACT: 28
Best in each section based off of 2 Act's
Math-36, Science-31, Reading-24, Grammar-26
so my composite would be 29
I am also going to retake it in september for my third and last time. I have a private tutor now to help me, and I know that I will improve because I am improving on practice tests.
Sat 2's- Math-800, Bio-650
Awards- Quiz Bowl Nationals and PAC
Baseball team- first in regionals
Science O- first in state for 2 events, and 2nd in state for 1 event, 1st in regionals in 1, and 2nd in regionals for 1.

Volunteering for about 20 hours at library. I'm not sure if tutoring counts for this, but if it does, an extra 100 hours.

I have a total of 2 ap's sophomore year, 5 junior year, and i signed up for 3 senior year. The rest of my classes are mainly honors or required classes. Maybe 1 or 2 electives my freshman year. Otherwise, my course load is very rigorous. Mainly A's in math, a couple of A-'s, 1 B+, and 2 B's in AP Calc AB. I redeemed myself and got 2 A's in Ap Calc BC. So, pretty much i'm a math guy. I also have a 115 on the AMC 12. I got a 3 on the AIME, which is horrible, i know.

I got a 4 in Calc BC with a 4 subscore for AB, a 3 in geography, a 3 in euro, and a 3 in us history. They aren't that great of scores.

Oh ya, i am from out of state also. If you need anything else, please ask.

Apply and find out.

It's not like you don't have good scores and such, so....our opinion is pretty much irrelevant.

They don't look at ECs, just scores/GPA etc.

try taking the ACT again

I guess "What needs improvement" is a much better question. Yeah, ACT can always go up if it's not in the 30s. 28 is still very good, definitely above average, but...spectacular scores...ones that would make you stand out amidst the apps are 32+. Get a prep book (princeton review), as that will boost your low sections like reading up towards the 30s.

ECs and essays aren't included on the app...it's just pure academics. Your GPA looks good, so yeah, i just say boost your test scores.

Thats the first time anyone has ever told me that my gpa looks good. Thanks. Also, i'm doing private tutoring with princeton review and my ACT should go up.

Your scores are definetely higher than Mcgill's minimum scores..you are 99% in..and if you get 26 on reading, it is 99.99%..unless they err..
fyi..mcgill's suggested minimum scores for ACT is 26-28 composite..24-25 for each section..and gpa 3.5 is considered as safe.

3.5 out of 4 is definitely good. I had a 3.3-3.4 GPA, but my ACT was 33. They love test scores so...definitely work on it

minimum scores dont gaurantee entrance car202

Ya, I don't understand what they mean by minimum. Is it if you have minimum, you are automatically in pretty much? Becuase I called them and thats what they said, but most people are telling me the opposite. Does anybody know for sure?

I'd basically just look at the minimum as just that. It's not what they want, and it definitely doesn't guarantee a thing, but...it shows they want high end scores. If you're AT the minimum now, then you'd have a bigger chance than being under the minimum (ie. I'm sure they accept some people that are under 28), but you really want to be at the mid to high level scores.

The minimum is based on past history, but the last several years students from the U.S. rarely were accepted with just the minimum scores listed, several of the faculties required a much higher score. It all depends on the applicant pool for the actual requirements. The minimum is also listed to save people time and trouble in applying if their scores are below the minimum. McGill has increased in popularity with U.S. students, mainly due to cost and location, and this has increased admitted scores, gpa, etc.

I see, but what if I am a canadian citizen also. Does that put me into a different pool, or am I still treated as a US student?

My d. had a good friend who was a Canadian/Quebec citizen who was attending high school in the U.S. For purposes of admission she was treated as a U.S. student, since her classes and grades were in the U.S. system. After she was admitted she was treated as a Quebecer for purposes of tuition. So, you will be treated as an applicant of wherever you are completing your high school work.

I said he will be accepted because one girl got

SAT1- Critical Reading:600

Maths: 760

 Writing: 580

SAT2- Maths level 2: 670

Biology M:670

TOEFL- CBT 260

which is far lower than minimum, has accepted last year. (FYI, he was Korean.) And I think he has better chance as he has 36 on math ACT.

although her gpa was perfect.

I found another guy, who has cr570 m800 w630/gpa 3.7/two 700+, one 800 on sat2, got in. (I want to tell you the website but you'll probably cannot read..since it is Korean site..)

since Mcgill just simply look at your scores, if you don't apply too late, I'm very confident that you'll get in..though I'll change my prior position, which I said you are 99% in, to 90%..

And according to collegeboard, 25-75% score ranges are

SAT Reasoning Verbal: 620 - 720 86%
SAT Reasoning Math: 650 - 720 86%
ACT Composite: 27 - 30 8%

And for gpa...

19% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher
39% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
37% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49
5% had h.s. GPA between 3.0 and 3.24

internationals are 17%..33% out of state..
60% are women..which means women are 1.5 times than men.

I got a 27 on my ACT, and I got in. Take them again because the higher the score the better shot you have, but don't panic over it.

ok, thanks for all your help.

What ACT score do you think will garuntee me admission?

i too got a 27 ACT and got into McGill management.
