I guess my hook would be that i'm hispanic, a girl, immigrant parents from mexico and salvador, economic hardship (real economic hardship not just "my parent only make $50,000 a yer"), lived in Compton for 8 years, didn't learn english till 3rd grade because of the crappy school system there, and I want to do a physics major and be pre med, and I'm the first to go to college in my family (even extended family)
So basically I'm a poor latina, who struggled to get where I am

Please, post you opinions on Columbia and on UChicago. Thanks!!!!!

maybe i missed it in your post...but if you are applying to engineering then you are absolutely gonna get accepted.

disclaimer i'm just trying to show enthusiasm, nothing is guaranteed in college admissions of course but u have an awesome chance.

I agree -- Nothing is a sure thing, but if your essays & recommendations are in line with the rest of your accomplishments, then you have an excellent chance. The Latina/female/genuinely immigrant parents/science-oriented package will be very appealing, especially when combined with impressive overall achievement and SATs.

Much good luck to you !

Why didnt you ED SEAS if it was your first choice?

I thought it would be more competative and I wouldn't get im

I don't want to rain on your parade, but you need 3 high score in the SAT2's one of them chem or Physic. My sister is also hispanic and had better stats in math (3 sat2 over 700) and she dind't get accepted (she ended up @ Cornell). Your chances are 50-50. Look at John Hopkins, they have only 5% hispanic. U chicago has 8% which is average

Hey SinRin, what high school in Texas do you go to, I go to Strake Jesuit in Houston.

you only need two sat subject tests for columbia.
