Hey, chance me please! Elon's my first choice. =)

SAT I-
V: 800
W: 720
M: 600

SAT IIs-
Literature: 760
US History: 710
Spanish: 630

ACT- 32

GPA- 3.6ish weighted (top 15%)

Classes- Almost the most difficult curriculum offered at my school, with mainly Honors classes except in math. I have 5 APs this year, and last year I had two (Spanish 4 I got a 3 on the test, and US History I got a 5).

Extracurriculars-
foreign exchange in South Africa for 6 months
Girl Scout Gold Award (my project was sending 300 lbs of donated school supplies to S.A.)
National Merit Commended Scholar
and I'm yearbook editor.

My essays so far have been pretty good, my teacher recs should be very good, and my counselors are pretty incompetent so who knows what they'll do, lol.

Oh, and my cousin goes to Elon if that helps.

Your GPA is a bit on the low side, but everything else looks great. Plus you've got the diversity of being from CA, if your user name is any indication. I would be extremely surprised if you didn't get in.

Yup, I'm from California.
I recalculated my GPA (I didn't think it was that low, lol) and the weighted GPA is a 3.72. Still not too impressive. I have a 4.3 this semester though! =)

In. Even with the 3.6 probably. Did you weight according to how Elon will do it (2 bonus points for AP/IB, 1 for Honors, only academic courses?)

So are you saying a B in an Honors course is a 4.0 and in an AP its 5.0? So does the average GPA listed for ELon mean using this formula meaning if the average is 3.5 thats a 3.0 based on regular school formula? When you say only academics does that include Language or just the four major subjects?

Here's the verbatim response my son got from the Elon admissions office several months ago:
[quote]
Elon calculates a core GPA for every applicant using a standard 4.0
grading scale and considering the core curriculum. This includes English, Math, Foreign Language, History, and Science. We convert your numeric grades for each class assigning them either a 4.0 for an A, 3.0 for a B, 2.0 (C) etc. We do no use a plus or minus system. Our goal is to benefit you therefore we provide additional weight for identified Honors and AP courses. If you have taken AP or Honors classes you can expect your GPA to increase with Elon's grading system. We give 1 additional point for Honors and 2 additional points for AP.

I assume, but don't know for sure, that this "Elon" GPA is what Elon reports in its entering class profile, admissions data set, etc.

You are WAY too smart for Elon. My sis goes there, she only got a 29 on her ACT and took 1 AP course (got a three on the test). And she is transferring b/c the classes at Elon are way too easy for her. Everyone around her is dropping like flies to go to a better school. You will be extrememly bored.

With those stats, you have a great shot at ANY school this side of HYP. Try some elite liberal arts colleges or something. But stay away from Burlington, NC.

So what is it with the dropping like flies thing. I've heard some freshman at Elon have some bumpy moments (like duh?) but the school seems to work pretty well since such a high % stay and graduate. Burlington is a bit less than dull, so if your looking for a cosmopolitan atmosphere you probably ought to look elsewhere, but if you appreciate a well put together University that can stand alone Elon might work. A car, or a friend with a car, for occasional ventures to G-boro or Chapel Hill are a plus. I agree a 6.1 GPA seems like a ticket to anywhere but I wonder why/if the courses at Elon are really easy.

freshman required courses have been a joke for me. however, they are just 100 level courses. i know for a fact that sophomore year is much more difficult because i have made many friends that are upperclassmen and they say that freshman year is an anomaly at elon. everyone that i've met that is dropping out is doing so because of difficulty with the social scene, or being too far from home. I have not met anyone that says they are transfering because it is too easy, but of course i could have just not met them (stating the obvious right?).
also, i am home now for christmas break and i am honestly bored out of my mind. i live in a town that has ~5 times the population of elon, ~half the population of burlington
and while if you really need a change it is a possibility to go to other colleges, i have not yet felt the need to do so. soon i may visit wake forest and davidson, but that is only because i have some friends there that i would love to see in a college atmosphere...girls do tend to go to greensboro to go shopping, but as a guy that confuses me :)
anyway, i could have gone many other places for college as well, but i am completely satisfied with my choice, especially considering it's going to be 70 there this coming week while it is in the 30's here

one girl i know is switching to another school because she found it difficult to make friends. she lived kind of far from campus near some upperclassmen who were very prissy and dressed up all the time, she only saw this because she lived 5 minutes from campus and so her only friends were made in classes and in her suite.
