In-state, Female
Dual citizen, speaks 4 different languages fluently
Has lived abroad for 3 years in Eastern Europe during middle school
Attends a HIGHLY competitive private school, well known for its academics
Plans to apply Early Decision for sure
GPA: 3.8
SAT's: V:670 M:540 (this is def. going to be the weak part of my app., but I am still a junior and have time to re-take it)
Class Rank: my school doesn't give it, but I'd approx. it to the top 10-15%, if I had to be pessimistic, then 15-20%
Have always taken the hardest courses offerend to me.
Extensive EC'S, including spending 3 weeks of my summer at a Governor's School progam, and another three weeks at W&M itself studying history.
Please assume that EC's are extensive, because they are, I just didn't have time to type them all up.

Retake your SATs. If you can bump it up into the low to mid 1300's, you have a strong chance. You don't want to be kept out by a test. Your class rank may hurt, so I'd try to get it up to the high 1300's.

Yeah, I'm going to keep working on those SAT's. I think if I try hard enough I could get those verbals to low 700's and my goal for the math is a 600. That would give me a competitive score. The class rank may be very flawed because as I've said, they don't give it. It's not any lower than top 20%, this I'm sure of. There's only 100 students in my graduating class.

I go to SSSAS. (St. Stephen's & St. Agnes)

The 3.8 GPA is unweighted.

Does anyone know of any good SAT prep courses they've taken?

If you can raise the SAT some, I think you would have a pretty good chance. Unique background, and good ECs are going for you. Right now the SAT is what hurts you I think. If you prep hard for the math for a little while, you can probably raise it to 600ish. Maybe check out a book from the library that will give you insight in how to best attack the math questions.

The "10 Real SATs" book helped me out A TON as far as practicing. I also took a prep class. As soon as you know the type of questions they ask, it's a lot easier.

I'm not sure if they still do the 10 real SATs thing since they switched to the SAT tho

ah yes, i remember the "10 Real SATs" book. That book helped me immensely. I lived by that book and also took a prep class. However, I realized that in class, the teacher would just give us problems from the "10 Real SATs" book for two hours. Going to prep classes did help me for SAT 1s (my writing score went from 570 to 750), but for SAT II's i just read the books (Barron's) on my own and did fine.

I don't know if there are any SAT prep locations near Alexandria (I'm assuming you live near SSSAS), but theres always Slyvan Learning Centers and C2 Education Centers

this might help you as well. I also go to a private school in Northern Va, and my school has a naviance site that keeps track of everyone who applied and got in or rejected.

GPA 4.0 uw, 4.2 w.
SAT 2210 CR-780 M-720-W-720
AP's WH-5, AP Eng Lang-4, AP Earth Science 4, AP Art History 3, AP US History-5 (hasn't taken senior AP's yet)

different EC's
I know SASS is a highly competitive school so you're being challenged academically. Keep taking those SAT's to get them up a little bit and really show off those language skills! That's what makes you a really unique candidate especially coming from NOVA. Use the optional WM supplement on the Common App. There's also an optional interview you can do during the summer. Good luck!!

I'm aiming for a 1300 combined math and verbal. My tutor says this is attainable (he even guaranteed it, but we'll see about that...). I would feel at ease applying with a 1260-1280, though, so if I manage that, I will at least feel like I have a fighting chance. I will definitley make a point of my language abilities and I know that if W&M is the school for me, they will look at the whole picture. I hope to update you guys on my W&M situation until judegment day (Dec. 1st) LOL. Whatever happens, I'll know that I will have tried my best once I get those scores up!
