I will also be doing a physics lab/research at a college in Taiwan this summer for 2 months. Hopefully this can be a hook.

I am also a pretty good track athlete looking to jump at D1.
If anyone wants to know, my distances are 44'7 for the triple jump and 20'11 for long jump. Hopefully I can jump 46 feet by the end of this season. I think that'll make me a somewhat marketable jumper for Big Ten or Ivy schools but not for PAC10's. How much can the coach help me if I show interest in jumping at the school even if I'm not good enough to be directly recruited?

My uncle went to grad school in USC for electrical engineering. How much would it help if I get him to write me a recommendation?

I hate these questions because noone really "knows" what the admissions office is looking for. I mean, obviously you have a really good courseload and activities, but I know people who were better and didn't get it, and know people who were worse and got it. Vice versa. I personally think you've got a shot.

Hmm, I'd estimate that you are pretty borderline - the Verbal and Writing SAT score may hurt you a bit. The GPA, while solid, is not stellar per se. Good luck nonetheless.

(aww, cmon tumbleweed32- you're right- we have no idea here but it's still fun!)

Alumni recommendations won't really help much (unless you have one of those rare MAJOR connections) and you will not be able to check the "legacy" box on the app- that is reserved for students who had parents, grandparents or siblings at USC. But then again, the recommendation can't hurt.

Your stats look good but like tumbleweed32 said, only admissions can tell for sure; you can only get some off the wall opinions here. Since acceptances JUST took place, look at the "Official Decisions..." thread and compare your stats, classes, ec's, etc. You'll find that some with worse stats got in and some with better stats than yours didn't. If you are not at a 4.0 uw and over 2200 SAT, it is important to have that hook and communicate it in some killer essays. Keep your grades up because USC WILL look at your 1st semester senior grades.

Yea of course, I"m just looking at opinions here.

The problem with the official decision on this website is that my school differs alot from other schools. A 3.5 might equal a 4.0 or 3.9 at another school. It's just different. We don't even have rankings.

Also, most people here are like overqualified -_- so I always see crazy stats like 2200+ and like 4.0's.

haha sorry i didn't mean to spoil the fun ^.^

taiwan- theres a couple of forums where people post all their stats and their admissions decision, you should definitely check that out.
You should probably take the SAT's one more time, because most people do improve and hitting 2000 would be great.
other than that, you're pretty solid.
