<p>I'm really frightened >.< I have done nothing extraordinary, my GPA is below average, and junior year is drawing to a close. Someone please tell me if I can get into the following schools:
NYU
Carnegie Mellon University
University of Miami
UCI
USCD</p>

<p>GPA: 3.53 unweighted (ugh....)</p>

<p>SATI: 1890 (Will definitely retake)
SATII: Mandarin 770, SAT IIC 750</p>

<p>Extracurricular activities:
Dance (4 years)
Piano (10 years. Passed Adv. level)
Go Club (1 year. Secretary)
TVA (2 years)
Hope can cure cancer club (1 year)
Track and field (1 year)
Tzu-chi volunteer (40 hours)
Approximate volunteer hours: 100 (...? Tentative estimate)</p>

<p>Extra: 3D Modeling (Maya) Portfolio</p>

<p>Yup... nothing else. No superhuman qualities like all you other people. Please give advice. Or maybe if I can't make it into those universities, suggest other ones.</p>

<p>NYU and Carnegie Mellon University look like substantial reaches. UCSD is a reach also.</p>

34% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
16% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49
12% had h.s. GPA between 3.0 and 3.24

<p>Pretty much 1/3 accepted</p>

<p>Because where he(?) stands right now, he's below average for NYU? Doesnt mean he(?) doesnt have a shot... Also, for the percentages you posted, I'd be curious to know where it stands for non-Tisch....</p>

If you have money, youll get into nyu.
Youre looking at schools that are in your range
Retake your SAT and try and do well on it
Put more colleges on your list, find another reach, and a safety
Carnegie Mellon is a good school to shoot for. decide where you want to apply ED, make sure its your favorite. find out what you want in a college, find all college fitting that, and narrow it down to 3 reach, 2 safety, 3 match. A combination similar to that. Youre doing a fine job. Get some more volunteer work, it cant hurt. WOrk hard on your essay, show who you are. Youll get in where you should be.</p>

<p>The problem is, if my parents haven't heard of the university, or if they don't think it's prestigious enough, they'll make sure I feel like I've let them down -____- So... I'm trying desperately to latch onto a good college that will accept me. Obviously, schools like UCLA, USC, Standford, etc are NOT going to take me. That's why my list is so limited >.<</p>

<p>UM is probably a safety, I know a lot of people with lower SAT scores that got in there.</p>
