I would say you are a match, but a high reach for honors. You need to apply ASAP, many of the spots in the frosh class have already been filled. Is that your umich GPA (only 10th and 11th grade, unweighted)? Scores are strong, but top 25% begins at 2160, so I'd be very surprised if you got into the honors program, though I don't know their specific qualifications.

For normal admission though, def a match if you apply soon. Good luck!

I think my Umich gpa is higher. Becase Junior Year i have straight A's in academic classes and Sophmore i have 4/5A's and 1 B. So my UMich GPA is a 3.9. When do they begin evaluting my application, like right when i submit it? or after the Recs arrive. Dou you think ill be fine as long as I have everything in pre Jan 1st. I can submit my app this week, im just worried about the Recs, they wont get there for a few weeks.

If your UM GPA is a 3.9, you are in good shape (though I think honors is still a reach). They begin evaluation after scores, app, and recs are in. I think Jan. 1st is pushing it, even though the deadline isn't until Feb. 1st. There's someone on here who applied in mid-Nov. last year with a 3.8+ GPA and 2100+ SAT and was waitlisted bc he applied "late." Of course, there could be another reason, but just be sure to get your app in ASAP. It will take them 6-8 weeks to evaluate your app AFTER everything is complete. Good luck!

"You need to apply ASAP, many of the spots in the frosh class have already been filled."

VC08 - isn't it a bit early to be saying this? You're making the rest of us kind of nervous!

Not really, I talked with my rep, and she said she highly encourages students to apply by early October of their senior year, because "spots fill up very quickly." Search around on here long enough and you'll find a few kids who had awesome scores and GPA but were deferred and then waitlisted bc they waited until Nov. or December to apply. Sure you can still get in, there are tons of spots still open. But for maximum advantage, I'm just advising him to apply early. That's what I would do at least...

Does "Indian" mean "Native American" as used in your initial post on this thread? Re: Univ. of Michigan, you have a strong chance of admission if you get your application in ASAP; otherwise, you might be waitlisted.

Thanks for all the advice VC08. I guess I was feeling like even though my daughter's stuff got in by 10/31, it might already be too late!

No, unfortunately I am Asian Indian. I have already given out my counselor form and teacher reccomendation and will submit my application this week. Hopefully this will be enough? Also, what is the Umich pre law program like?

Law schools like students to take challanging courses that stress analytical thinking and critical analysis writing skills. Although any major is acceptable for law school admission, philosophy majors do very well with respect to gaining admission to law schools. Most important is your LSAT score, followed by a strong undergraduate GPA based on difficult coursework. Business law courses are often viewed as a slight negative by law school admissions committees. Regarding a "pre-law program", just study what you like, do well and take hard courses that require critical thinking and writing skills. Hope this is of help to you.

mom: she should be fine, she met the ER deadline. What I'm talking about is mostly for people who submit theirs from now on through Feb 1st.

Is michigan better than cornell?

^ cornell IS an ivy.....
however i believe that michingan has a stronger business programs..

i personally like it more, but it really depends. both are probably equal academically, and Cornell has a GORGEOUS campus. but i like the sports scene michigan has to offer, and ann arbor was a better fit for me than ithaca.

i agree with vc08.. cornell is very different. despite the ivy title, i would much rather attend umich.

Does Michigan superscore the SAT?

Does Michigan superscore the SAT?

nope

hmm, are you sure because most major universities do?

THEY DO NOT SUPERSCORE. And many major universities do not; Notre Dame, The UC system, etc. all take your score from one sitting.
