Hello, I applied regular using the common app , can someone tell me my chances of getting in. I am applying to the college of arts and sciences undecided

your in. dont worry about it.

i'm just worried b/c i havn't taken a lot of ap classes just chem and the others are just SUPA classes which are from syracuse university offered in our high school. another question: How generous is SU in giving financial aid(grants/scholarships?

don't worry about. I'd say they're pretty liberal with the financial aid. I didn't apply for anything, but got a scholarship anyway. I hear mixed things though.

does SU have a seperate form for scholarships/financial aid or do we just file the FAFSA?

well you have to file the FAFSA and the CSS profile for them...there's a few scholarships you can actually apply to.. though

for a&s you have a shot at some of the merit ones, which don't require a fafsa (but still do it!)--founders scholarship, etc. check it out--they award them with acceptance, and they come with nice perks.

the financial aid is good, i you dont get much but feel that you need more, call the financial aid office and talk to them about it and they will more than likely increase your financial aid. they did for me and i am only paying 800 out of pocket, but i do have loans.

Thanks for the info true2itz

True2itz isn't always correct. My daughter got NOTHING, zilch, nada , yet she did get money from a number of comparable schools. Syracuse wouldn't even consider matching or even coming close to any other offer. Thus, she didn't go there.

Taxguy,

I thought your daughter was going to Syracuse... we did not get anything for financial aid either, just the offer for unsubsidized loans (whoopie!)

Mocho... just thought I'd point out, the SAT scores of 760 and 600 really only equal 1360... hahaha

sorry i mistyped the 600 it's a 610. I realized that but at that point I could not edit it. lol

Samsmom noted,"I thought your daughter was going to Syracuse... we did not get anything for financial aid either, just the offer for unsubsidized loans (whoopie!)"

Response: Yes, all we got was unsubsidized loans. Thus, we declined their offer. My daughter preferred University of Cincinnati anyway since they had Digital Design that Syracuse didn't have.

Do you mind me asking if she had good grades and SAT scores?

Mocho,

She had an unweighted average of 93.68 haven taken all honors courses and only 2 AP courses (her school did not offer very many AP classes). So, I guess that was pretty good. Her SAT scores were not that great, she only had 670 math, 560 critical reading, and 550 writing. She has always had major issues with big tests and freaks out, but math comes much easier to her than any of the English areas. She does well if there is a definite answer, but a lot of the English questions include the phrase "which is the best" and she has issues with that since most of them make enough sense to be understood! She got into Newhouse for Graphic Arts which is her passion. She was surprised to get into Newhouse due to her less than stellar English/writing skills, but her high school resume probably showed a lot of passion for her major!

Good luck getting in, but judging by your stats it looks like you should not have any problems! Just show a great interest in your major and you should be okay!

ummm... I applied undecided to A&S do you think that will hurt me?

I think you will be getting one of those happy letters from Syracuse!

Ok well thanks for your thoughts. It makes me feel much better.

Well, i forgot to mention, they do look at your need. my EFC is 0, so thats probably why they were more willing to increase my financial aid after i talked with them. with the initial fin aid package i got would not have been able to attend syracuse. it doesnt hurt to ask though.

Just a quick question. When you say you talked to them, do you email them or call them somewhere? I have been wondering about that for a while
